Tooting my own horn here---my memoir just sold! My agent is working out the final contract details; I should have a contract in-hand by end of business Friday, 6/29/07. It's been a long road----I'm thrilled to finally be able to tell people I have a real book deal inked! Yay! Details to come. . . .

Congratulations! Don't recall seeing your posts before, so I'm wondering what it's about...(about you, obviously, but wondering what your life has been about).

Looking forward to those details... In the meantime I'm scanning your website and blog... looks like you have some nice writing and performing arts credits, like you didn't just start on this writing thing last winter (like, um, I did). Congrats on making it into the 0.5 percent!

Congratulations Sak, please keep us posted. I remember you from my being sued for writing memoirs thread! Your book sounded interesting and obviously it was. Good luck, though you don't need that wish anymore. We are all pulling for you.

Darn, I keep checking back, and the suspense is killing me :-) And I'm heading off on Thursday on an 11 day vacation without much internet access. So I guess I'll have to wait till mid-July to hear the exciting details! (Also waiting to hear about my own book, now in the hands of 3 publishers. Vacations can be hard!)

Congrats again!

Fabulous news! and in your case we'll have to add a fourth, for baby on the way....did one agent sell all three books to different pubs at the same time? Kind of amazing right there.....

cheers to you.

Provided all goes well w/ the contract negotiations on those three deals (contract talks are ongoing on all three) then yes, my agent will have landed all three deals for me in the space of a couple months. Mind you, he has repped me for almost three years and it has taken this long to get those deals, but it is interesting that after all this time it seems to be happening all at once.

Yet more proof that patience and tenacity are key in this business. . .

Again, so happy for you. Three at once!!!!!!!!
Are they all memoir? If not, what are the others about?

Well, the contract negotiations have taken longer than expected due to some staff turnover at the publisher, but we should be done and ready to announce details of the memoir deal very, very soon. Stay tuned. . .

Well, the contracts are finally done and signed, so it's now finally official:

"Jill Elaine Hughes' WACKO, a powerful memoir about surviving mental illness, to Kris Van Hoof-Haines at Hazelden Publishing by Uwe Stender at TriadaUS Literary Agency (World)."

(to be posted today on PublishersMarketplace.com)

I'm glad to hear of it. I think Hazelden will do a good job for you. As I may have told you in an email, I visited their booth at BEA and looked at some of their titles.

Thanks John! I've read some of their other recovery memoirs and they are very well-done. They have given me a very nice advance and royalty terms as well. Hazelden also has several multi-million-selling self-help classics in its backlist and they just signed a European/international distribution deal with Eurospan, so that bodes well for overseas sales, too.

Congrats, Sakamonda! I don't know if you remember me, but I posted some messages to you back in June when you were really struggling -- noting that you had been at this for 5 years. I feel like I know you now:LilLove: and am really happy for you! You hung in there a long time and are now an inspiration to all of us unpublished folk! Good work! Can't w82c your book cover and hear more about the deal.
