View Full Version : She loved it!

An agent who requested my full YA novel almost a month ago emailed me on Thursday to let me know that she loved it. However, she wanted to read it through again and think about how she would market it, and then she would get back to me "very soon."

What's "very soon" to an agent? I'm going c-r-a-z-y waiting for her to email/call. I'm so nervous and impatient. Aaaagh.

So, the point of this post is to focus on the good news, in case it's followed by bad news later. For now I'm just trying to be happy that she loved it! And even wants to read it AGAIN!

Cross your fingers for me? :)

What's "very soon" to an agent?

Kinda like dog-years to a human. Try not to worry until next summer :D

But Congrats and Crossed-thingies for you! :)

That's wonderful! (But how awful to be kept in suspense like that!) Hope it's all good news from here on out. :)

Way to go, hnh! "Loved it" is the important step. Here's hoping "very soon" means "within 24 hours." :D

ChunkyC-- yep, I'm working on a new novel and I'm currently in the editing phase. Which unfortunately isn't doing ANYTHING to help the time pass by any quicker.

Midnight Muse--just the idea of having to wait until next summer is horrifying!

:partyguy: You must feel great just knowing someone read your work and loves it. I hope the wait isn't that long before you hear something positive. If one agent loved it, you know another one has got to love it also. Good luck.

Congratulations! Very soon could be by next Monday. If they like a ms. a lot and feel it has commercial appeal, they'll jump on it, before another agent comes along. Let us know when you get the word!

Congratulations! What great news....

So, to keep calm in the meantime, maybe go jogging...or drink some wine?

Congratulations! I know how those waiting hours can be torture. Try not to eat a whole jar of hot fudge with a spoon like I did... (in one weekend of waiting!)

I know, but at least it's waiting with real reason for hope.

Personally, I'd run round screaming until someone punched me unconscious.

That'd take care of the waiting for a few hours, anyway.:)

Congrats hnh! :hooray: I wish you the best of luck and I hope you won't have to wait long for your answer. I have no idea what I'd do with myself.

Maybe that jogging idea...

I'm playing a little psychic here. Does the agent have the initials AB? Just that I got a similarly positive e-mail from the same person if they do. She has already responded since the initial e-mail but was off work Friday and replied from home. If it is her, my money's on Monday via e-mail. If it is not; please ignore this kooky, crazy, pretending to be psychic post.
fingers crossed for you anyway.

Astro: nope, mine is HR. But now I'm trying to figure out who AB is and if I've already been rejected by her. If she reps YA, then I probably have. :)

Any word?? Of course, this being the week of the 4th of July here in the U.S., you probably won't hear anything 'til at least next week. Fingers still crossed for you!

Well, I got my response this morning.

The bad news is that she doesn't want to offer representation as she doesn't think she could sell the novel, although she genuinely seems to love it. She thinks we would get rejections praising my writing but dismissing it as "too quiet" for a debut novel. I've had this same kind of response before from other agents, so maybe they're on to something.

The good news is that she gave me an open invitation to send my new novel to her when it's finished. I've already given her a brief synopsis, so hopefully she thinks it sounds more marketable than the first. All things considered, I think this thread still belongs under the "Accomplishments" forum. I have my foot in the door and this is only going to make me work that much harder on Novel #2. So thanks for all of your kind words and finger-crossing. :)

You have a great attitude, hnh. I know how hard it is to have your hopes up, then dashed. You're almost there since it seems your writing is very good. Now go make novel #2 a real page-turner!
