Teen movies, actually.
Ok, I'm going through a YA faze in writing. So...just wondering what you all would rate as the best teenage movie of all time. The one that totally captured your imagination in your youth--the one that you just loved to watch over, and over again (or still do!)

Some of mine for starters:
The Breakfast Club
Valley Girl
Puberty Blues
Grease
Heathers
hmmm....so may more, but I'm sure you'll all jog my memory.

God, I'm showing my age...

Clueless

St. Elmo's Fire
Stand By Me
Friday Night Lights
Back to the Future
American Pie
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
and believe me or not... Harry Potter (reminds me of my British boarding school days)

Oh, yeah--Back to the Future was pretty damn good.

Something about Goonies was kinda neat. Well, okay, I liked it lots. Young love and adventure.

Honey I Shrunk the Kids? Young love and adventure

Edward Sissor Hands. Young love. Redemption.

The one that really captured my nephew and niece's hearts was Harry and the Hendersons. They wore the tape out. Got a new tape. But they wore out the damn VHS player. Had to get a DVD. Then had to buy the DVD version of HATH. Then we had to hide the DVD of HATH.

Damn their eyes!

I'm still in my 'youth', but some of my favorites are:

- The Breakfast Club
- Back To The Future
- The Nightmare Before Christmas (alright, it's a kids-y movie, but it's still a favorite)
- Edward Scissorhands
- Spiderman
- Pretty In Pink
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Interesting.....

Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, (haven't seen all of Pretty in Pink), Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Nothing current comes to mind.

I see other people putting Spiderman. So I guess I count that because it helped me with my teenage identity crisis and plus he's so cool.

I love, love, loved Valley Girl! Not only did the music kick a**, but most people don't know that it was one of Nicholas Cage's first movies. He was, like, fer shure, so totally dreamy in it!;) Grease was another one I loved, too.

Currently, High School Musical is the big one in my household, thanks to the kids. (Yep, who's showing their age now? LOL)

Ten Things I Hate About You
The New Guy
The Goonies

I am sure there are more but my old age is kicking in and can't remember any others.

Definitely The Goonies, for me, although I hadn't thought of it as a teen movie before reading this thread. It feels relatively innocent compared to what I think of as teen movies now! Ferris Bueller's Day Off is another favourite.

Boy do I feel old!

You specified when I was a youth. It appears that there were very few teen movies in the 70's. The 60's had the beach movies and the Gidget movies, but they were before my time. The 80's had the Breakfast Club and such. But my generation? All I can think of is American Grafitti and Carrie. I suppose you could count the original Star Wars. It's not usually considered a teen movie, but it sure had a huge teen following.
