On Pitching a No-Hitter

Damn, and I didn't get to watch it. I love watching a no-hitter.

I walked in here thinking this was going to be a spoof on the "On Pitching a Novel" and "On Pitching a Horseshoe" threads. And what do I get? Actual sports talk. Serves me right for procrastinating.

Watching a no-hitter game is pretty dang cool.

Yeah and since I'm a Cubs fan, I'm ALWAYS the other team!

Yay for my hometown! The Tigs have to do something since:
a) Pistons blew it.
b) Red Wings f'ed it up.
c) Lions are USELESS.

I've been trying to escape Detroit for seven years! I've been in KY a bit now, but it looks like we're getting sucked back to the Motor City at the end of the year. Apparently I'll need to do something drastic, like move to London.

I was working at a sports bar the night the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup a few years back. It was quite an experience (read: a bunch of drunk people standing on tables and singing We Are the Champions. No, you're not. You're just drunk.)

Anyway, commence with the baseball...

Though I live in Michigan, I've pretty much given up on our Detroit sports teams. I was pleasantly suprised by the Tigers last year but not enough to become a fan...I pay attention but not a lot.

You know folks...we have a Sports and Fitness Writing forum on these boards, just a little south of here.

Within that forum you can find the Hot Stove thread where subjects like this would be welcome additions.

Seaver had a perfect game going for 8 and 2/3 innings in Chicago. I forget who got the hit off of him. Sad day for Mets fans.

What about Curt Schilling?? *sigh* soooo close, but missed it by that much!

Saw the last inning. Verlander's the real thing. He was throwing fastballs up to 101 mph that last inning. Wicked stuff too. Just an awesome performance.

Sorry, but I can't offer any congratulations. I kept hoping my boys would spoil it, even up to the last out.

Let's just hope the Tigers can get back to the World Series and win it I was really sad when they lost last year...
