Here are three of my favorite ways to promote your video book trailer … and generate more sales:
  1. Promote on video sharing sites. YouTube is the obvious choice here, but don’t just stop there. Google Video, Yahoo! Video, Veoh, and Grouper are other good options. Also check out Revver, which offers a way to generate revenue from ads inserted into your trailer. For even more ideas, view the list of video sharing sites on Wikipedia.
  2. Promote in your email signature file. Don’t just include a link to your website, also include a link directly to your trailer in every email you send.
  3. Promote on social networking sites. MySpace is popular with many authors whose books attract a young or general interest audience, but there are social networking sites for all ages, interests, and professions (like authors!). Wikipedia has a great list of options.
Feel free to share your own favorite ideas!

I really don't want to come across as stupid, but I've searched everywhere; am I finding the correct info: one must be a gazillionaire in order to have one of these mini-video's put together?

These are great. But are they financially realistic for the 'new writer'?

If you know websites that offer more info, that would be super.

The software isn't that difficult, but I know my limitations, so I talked my niece into doing mine. I know she's interested in doing others and I'm sure would be charge a reasonable fee. Here's the two she did for me:

I'd add that one should encourge people to rate and comment on your video as a way to build up your visibility. I also try to get others to post links to them in their blogs or their websites.

Another place to show your video...

I have just made it possible for authors and publishers to post video book trailers directly on their book's AuthorsBooksho.com web page. The idea is that when you have the video on the same page as the "buy it now" button, it can really increase interest.

Here are two AuthorsBookshop.com listings that are using video in this way:

Drop me a line via the contact page on the site if you have any questions about listing your book.

All good things to know, thanks! Here's one I did on the fly thanks to iStockPhoto and Photobucket (no, you don't have to be a gazillionaire to do a book trailer) Good luck to all in promoting your work!

Not at all! I did the filming with my EasyShare digital camera, and my husband did the editing with Photoshop, or Adobe... some program we already had in place.

Granted, it isn't fancy, but we had a good time, and my publisher loved it enough to post it on their site, too. :D
