How would you categorize the likes of Tom Sharpe's Wilt, or H.E. Bates's Darling Buds of May?
What about Rumpole of the Bailey?

And how the *%#& would you categorize a novel that is somewhere between those two? Are they all just "comedy"? That would sure simplify things for me....

Well, I have seen "Offbeat/Quirky" listed as a genre on many agent websites :Shrug:

Rumpole is sold as a mystery series, more than anything else. That's why I bought and read them, 'way back when.

But, I'm with Muse -- I see offbeat and quirky listed as what many agents want.

I haven't read the other two, so can't offer any suggestions there, sorry!
