You know, the ones that everybody in the crowd is waiting for, the ones that have you cranking up your car radio and headbanging at stop lights. <--- The rock anthem salute.

I've listed a few that I consider classics. Vote for one or toss in your candidate(s).

I am no rock 'n roll expert by any means, but here's three more to add:

1: I Love Rock 'n Roll-Joan Jett (I almost blew chunks when Britney re-did it)

2: Another One Bites the Dust-Queen

3: Star Spangled Banner Rendition-Jimi Hendrix

Highway to Hell.

Honorable mention: Satisfaction, For What It's Worth (Buffalo Springfield), Let it Ride (BTO), All Right Now (Free), Runnin with the Devil (Van Halen--before that idiot Sammy Hagar joined and ruined everything), She Shook Me All Night Long (AC/DC), and Sweet Home Alabama (Skynard).

I recall that this was a favorite even of people who weren't big fans of the band (okay, it was Kiss). Whatever the exact song title is, this is how the chorus goes:

"I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day."

But a personal favorite since about 7th grade is "Jumpin' Jack Flash."

I love these ones:

We are the Champions (Queen)
Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin)
Smoke on the Water (Deep Purple)
Rock and Roll Hootchie-Coo (Johnny Winter)
Rebel Rebel (David Bowie)

Being a progressive rock fan, there are certain songs that top my list that aren't really anthems in the sense we're talking about here:

Roundabout (Yes)
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (Genesis)
Lucky Man (Emerson, Lake & Palmer)
Money (Pink Floyd)

I'd vote for some of those, but I'd add:

My Generation -- The Who
American Woman -- The Guess Who
Higher Ground -- Stevie Wonder (is it rock? who cares?)
Alive -- Pearl Jam
Pump It Up -- Elvis Costello
Anarchy in the UK -- Sex Pistols
Somebody to Love -- Jefferson Airplane
Revolution 1 -- The Beatles

Okay, this could take all day....

[ETA: Can I cast a negative vote for We Will Rock You? :D]

Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf
Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood & the Destroyers
I Drink Alone - George Thorogood & the Destroyers

Personally, I don't like any of the songs listed in the poll. ChuckyC came the closest to what I'd consider anthems with his prog rock list.

My list probably has
Titties and Beer by Zappa
Highway Song by Blackfoot
Cities on Flame by Blue Oyster Cult
Day of the Eagle by Robin Trower
Paranoid by Black Sabbath
More than a Feeling by Boston
And with Bowie I can't decide between Changes or Suffragette City

YES!!! Smoochies to Ferret for More Than A Feeling. It's a good thing I don't drive. Whenever that song comes on I turn into a spaztastic spaz from the planet Spazoid in the Spaztromeda galaxy. Just total headbanging(but why? it's not really metal is it?) and air guitar and dang! I'd freakin' wreck. I'd never make it to my destination if I drove.

Yeah, most of these songs totally work. I voted for Won't Get Fooled Again on account of how it tricks me into watching the first 10 minutes of CSI|Miami every freakin' time!

Also if you see someone swerving and veering into god knows what on the highway - I got my license! Live in fear minions! Wha? I have minions?

Oooh! Don't think anyone said

Domino - Van Morrison(but of course)

That song gets me movin' + trying to get neighbor to change his pomeranians name from Doggie(lazy-lazy-lazy unless you're all of 1.5 years old) to Domino cuz he's black and white, and criminy but song names are a helluva lot better than lazy ones. Oops digressed.

Let's see...
this is taking me back you understand.
The first that come to mind, in no particular order:

Rock n Roll All Night - Kiss
Shout It Out Loud - Kiss
Working Man - Rush
Riff Raff - AC/DC
Hell's Bell's - AC/DC
School's Out - Alice Cooper
Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult
Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf

Cheap Trick had come classics, but the titles elude me at the moment...
