Has there been a thread about this before?

I would vote for "Police Story."

Hmm, I can't recall the theme to Police Story off the top of my head.

The theme music from Mod Squad can get stuck in my head with no problem.
And I do sing along to the theme for Scrubs :)

I agree so much. I used to LOVE Newhart. (Hi, I'm Larry, this is my brother Darryl . . . .) And I have always loved the theme music. But I noticed the wav you linked to was the "shortened" version. I recall from the original run it had a short bridge that was cut for syndication. I'd love to hear the full version with bridge.

Also, WKRP in Cincinnati. How many here can sing along?

The Munsters had two good themes.

MASH. Plus, I loved the movie's version with lyrics.

Amazing Stories.

Star Trek (TOS).

The Jeffersons.

Lost. (kind of a joke)

And I think Murder She Wrote had a neat theme.

I started to make a list, but realized it was going to be really really long. So I'll come up with some really good themes that nobody will prolly think of but me ;) Yes, I'm a dork

Earth Final Conflict
SeaQuest
Due South
Wonderfalls (makes me happy everytime)

And people have mentioned other Star Trek themes, but I liked DS9 the best.

And the theme my sis & I will never forget:
Saved By the Bell

Airwolf was on the SciFi channel earlier today and the theme music on that was pretty good (mixed in with the turbo-helicopter screaming as it flew by)...

A few people already mentioned Magnum PI

MacGyver

Hmmm...maybe I should name something from this decade....ummmm....

Sopranos is good
CSI

Take care all -

Hill Street Blues (I actually bought it on 45)
Greatest American Hero (believe it or not, it's just me)

They just don't make TV theme music like they used to. ::waves cane at you from my porch::

No, wait! I thought of one from recent history -

Invader Zim (now that's a song you will never, ever get out of your head)

The Theme from F Troop (I would kill to find this for my phone!)

The Rockford Files??? I still HATE that tune, specifically and especially its wailing synthesizer lead.

I was quite young (maybe 10?) and it wasn't on very long, but I can still hear the theme to "The Time Tunnel."

Okay, finally The Overall Best TV Show Theme Song Ever:

Sesame Street.

Thanks to having two young kids, I get to see some kid TV guilt-free. There's a funny show called Pinky Dinky Doo -- it has a fantastic theme song. It's got an excellent ska sort of rhythm, and the characters even do a sort of skanking dance in the show. What's not to like?

Tale of the Golden monkey - don't remeber the tune but is this with the island and it has a giant statue of a monkey made out of gold???

Yep. :D Well, the statue was what drew a lot of treasure hunters (Jake included) to the island in the first place. Starred Stephen Collins as an island charter pilot in the WWII era. Had Jack, the one-eyed Jack Russel that barked one time for 'yes', two times for 'no'. Jake lost his (Jack's) sapphire glass eye in a poker game. Also had a Nazi masquerading as a priest.

Chaos? If you read this, do you still have that site bookmarked with all the tv themes? I can't remember what it was.

I loved that show. So sad it lasted barely a season. I liked the one eye dog.

Oh, does anyone remember "Captain Nice"?
I do.
There was another similar themed show on around the same time, Mr. Terrific.

Anyone remember "It's about Time?"

It's about time, it's about space
about two men in the strangest place
it's about time, it's about flight,
travelin' faster than the speed of light

I can't believe I remember that still.

We love Pinky Dinky Doo at our house. I love the fact that Pinky has "big ideas" and makes up stories. I encourage my daughter to do the same thing.

I love the theme music for the Golden Girls. I think it has to do with the fact that I listened to it growing up.

So agree with Hill St Blues.

Also, there was a kids' show that had a theme where the lyric went, 'On white horses/snow white horses/let me ride away...' Absolutely wonderful theme song. Can't remember the show, though. Does anyone know what it was? I've a feeling it was Scandinavian.

Also, the theme to 'The Storyteller', a kids' animation series: 'In Russia I am Ivan/ in Sweden I am Jan/ in Germany I'm Johan/ In England I am John'. Hilarious!

Zahra, the show was called White Horses, and was about the Lippezanas (sp?), that do the amazing dressage and dancing. I think it was made in Czechoslovakia or somewhere Eastern European, and I know that the English dubbed version no longer exists, which is a great shame. I still know all the words to the theme song
.
I also know all the words to The Flashing Blade, a French swashbuckling series from the 1960s.

I can't believe no one has said "SWAT"! That is just funky, man!

A little more contemporary, who can not love "Pinky and the Brain"?

I really like The US Office theme song.

30 Rock has a good one, and even though Scrubs has a really, really short "theme," I always sing along with it.

The new Battlestar Galatica has a beautiful theme even though it's very, very sparse.

I gotta say something for the original Perry Mason series (was there more than one? Not so much a recent series as a series of movies made before Raymond Burr passed away in 1993. "Perry Mason: The Case of the <insert clever crime name here>" They were fun to watch.

But to get back on track: yes, the theme song was awsome.

The percussion riffs juxtaposed with the elevated trains. street musicians and

I was very young when I watched it and I was always disappointed that you never saw him getting out of a suitcase!

Andy Pandy. How fantastic. Wasn't that the one with the very ugly doll called Hamble? Yes, it was, cos I remember wetting my knickers with laughter when my evil best friend of teenage years disparaged a love-rival thus: 'She looks like Hamble.' I think she was stolen, later, wasn't she? (The doll, not my friend).

Hamble the doll was on Playschool, which ran for many years in the early evenings. Off the top of my head, the other dolls on Playschool were Big Ted and Little Ted, Jemima and Humpty. Brian Cant was one of the presenters. He also narrated Camberwick Green and Trumpton and Chigley (All together now - "Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb!")
Andy Pandy was part of Watch With Mother at lunchtimes. It was a puppet show, with Andy (who wore a blue and white striped romper suit and a very strange hat), Teddy and Looby Loo, who lived in a cupboard and only came out to dust! Little proto-feminist that I was, she made me furious!
The other Watch with Mother stories were The Woodentops (more puppets, starring Jenny and Willy and Spotty Dog - and a mother who only ever seemed to play the piano at the end), and my favourite, Tales by the Riverbank. This was filmed with real small animals, Hammy Hamster, a white rat, GP the Guinea Pig, and others. The white rat had a motor boat, and GP drove a jeep. It was narrated by the wonderful Johnny Morris, who also did Animal Magic.

I seem to have a slightly scary detailed knowledge of late 60s/early 70s programmes for young children....

Good God, woman!

Yes, I have and I still love it. Sorry to hear it gives you a headache.

Here's another old one: The Man From Uncle! OR Pallidon?

I was such a little 'Man from UNCLE' freak! I had the hots for Illya Kuryakin, too - what young pubescent girl didn't? I can even tell ya what 'UNCLE' and 'THRUSH' stand for without looking 'em up.

Also, WKRP in Cincinnati. How many here can sing along?

For those who'd like to here it... here (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/sounds/wkrpincincinnatiradio.wav) it is. :) And ya'll remember the theme songs from the commercials the gang had to record for a couple of episodes? The 'Red Wigglers' (http://www.tv.com/tracking/viewer.html?sls_id=686&ref_type=101&ref_id=688&tag=updates;title;0)theme and the song for the funeral home?

And here's the 'Turkey Drop' (http://radio.about.com/library/blwkrpturkeydropaudio.htm). :D It's in a link at the top of the page; you'll need RealAudio to listen.

OK, now that I've read through the past nominations...

'Tales of the Gold Monkey'--I loved that show, and Stephen Collins.

'Hawaii 5-0'- this is so cool, I had to download it as my ringtone.

'WKRP in Cincinnati'-I did an article on Ohio a few months back, and when I did the section on Cincinnati, this theme song ran through my head constantly. Also covered Toledo, and finally got to write about the Toledo Mud Hens after years and years of watching Klinger in M*A*S*H reruns. That whole article was a blast to do, simply because I'm a tv nerd.

Oh yeah? I can sing the Barney song in spanish. I win. :e2chain:

Edit: Okay, I just read that you are a Tales of the Gold Monkey fan too. The only other one I have ever met, I think. So, we'll call it a draw...

This is more incidental music, and not even original, but here am I posting about it anyway cos I'm bad...The music that 'Cold Case' uses when the victim is finally 'laid to rest' always gets me. I weep buckets. It's really embarrassing.

I especially remember the one with the Puerto Rican transvestite, and her song was Neil Simon's 'The Goodbye Girl'. I was on the floor.

I loved the Original Galatica theme too! What is with sf shows always having great opus themes? Blake's 7 anyone?

And I loved Enterprise, I really did, but that Long Road crap! I wish I could get that out of my head! And its written by Diane Warren, of Armageddon 'Don't Wanna Miss a Thing' fame!

Heehee, what about the theme from Cheers?

Star Trek Voyager. That one roils through my head non-stop.

That is a great tune. It's almost sad yet uplifting...strange.

Eventhough it is a song from a group, Veronica Mars is my favorite opening to a show. As somebody said, MASH is another great one.

Someone else remembers this show! :hooray: I loved it. Talk about a cliffhanger finale. Eeep!
The Others was brilliant! My wife and I were incensed when it got cancelled, but that idiotic Charmed got renewed.

And -- I can't believe I forgot to mention Northern Exposure (http://timstvshowcase.com/northern.html). Another theme perfectly suited to the setting of the show.

I would really like to thank everyone for avoiding the following:
WARNING!! The lyrics to these songs may immediately become imbedded in your thought process for the remainder of the day. I can only hope, especially where Auntybug is concerned!!!

The Ballad of Jed Clampett (The Beverly Hillbillies)
The Theme from Barney (Barney is a dinosaur from our imaginaaaaation....)
And (I can't believe you thought you could get through this whole thread without someone mentioning it.....) It's the story, of a lovely lady, who was bringing up three very lovely girls ... The Brady Bunch!!! Everyone sing together now... all of them had hair of gold, like their mother......

Angel, hands down wins. Firefly is a close second.

Rescue Me and the Soprano's both win out for the "cool factor" when it comes to music, as both songs are just hard core. But in terms of mood music, Angel, bar none. I have the song on MP3 and listen to it constantly. Hell, I'm listening to it now.

On the first page of this thread Sage said Due South. Due South has an awesome theme song.

Sadly, I spent too much time watching television as a child and I devoted myself to cartoons. Nothing will ever compare to (get ready to chuckle) the Dark Wing Duck theme song. Oh, how I loved it so. ^_^
