Hi all,

I have a question concerning Islam, specifically medieval Islam (though perhaps there's no difference at all): for Friday mosque services, is there any rhyme or reason to the way men line up, i.e. eldest in front, highest social order in front, etc.? It would be for a Fatimid (Shi'ite) service, if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

Scott

Fahim, my husband, Muslim, and fellow AW person, says:

The way things were done in medieval Islam will be no different than how it's done now unless there's something social or cultural happening with a particular group of people. Islam itself says nothing about the order of lining up to say prayers. It's all random - whoever comes in first goes to the front, etc.

And he's asked me to type it out since he's gone to pray.

Sounds like a perfect point of conflict I might steal: one character wants to exert influence of his station, while others aren't in a position to resist or complain.
