Hired to write a book

A local historical organization wants to hire me to write a book about a local football scandal from the 1920's. They have tons of research done, it would be about 100 pages, and I would get an author's credit. How do I charge? Should it be a flat fee or a percentage of the profit on each book sold? They would be publishing it themselves. Also, if I charge a flat fee does anyone have any ballpark figures for me? thanks.

writer's market has a suggested fee scale...

check it out in any fairly current edition... you can also google for writers for hire and ghostwriters and see what the going rates are...

congrats on getting a paying gig!... don't forget to have the contract looked at by your OWN attorney... and make sure he/she specializes in literary law, not real estate...

love and hugs, maia
