Finish the sentence.

I usually say "Life is too short to hold grudges." But another one I say is, "Life is too short to live without chocolate!"

~*On our death beds, it's not the things we have done that we regret, but the things we haven't done*~

Actually, I think it's the things we didn't do for our loved ones, specifically. For instance, I don't think I'll regret not doing more dishes or laundry.

Oh .......that's not a post you made. Sorry.

I don't think I'll regret not doing more dishes or laundry.

So the obvious sentiment is:

Life is too short to spend doing dishes or laundry. (Um, just as long as you also think that life is to short to care what others think...)

Carole
08-24-2005, 03:59 AM
Well, as long as it's being picked apart, perhaps clarification?

In regard to the first part of my post, I meant life is too short to worry about whether or not some else is happy with how I look, what I wear, what I believe, whether or not I make enough money, what I drive, whether or not I need to have my roots done, whether or not I am wearing too much makeup, what I name my dog, what I choose to eat, etc. The general busybodies of the world are who that was directed at, and how life is too short to worry about pleasing anyone but myself and those I care about when it comes to personal matters.

The second part of that post was intended to be taken (as I took it when I first saw it years ago) as when we are dying, we won't be saddened by the time we fell butt-over-teacup and landed in a heap at the bottom of the hill while learning to ski, we won't be saddened by the time we dyed our hair pink or the time we tried out for the soccer team even if we were not chosen. We'll be saddened by all the things we were too afraid or insecure to try.

(It was so much easier to say the first time!)

Yeshanu
08-24-2005, 04:10 AM
Carole,

I wasn't really trying to pick apart your quotes -- I just wanted to add to them. But I do like your clarification.

With regards to the second, I also first came across this years ago, and I took it somewhat differently. (Though I agree with your interpretation. The one doesn't rule out the other...) My sister has been dead for 12 years now, and I regret things I didn't do, specifically: all the times I could have said, "I love you," and didn't. All the things we could have done together and the talks we could have had, and didn't. And so on...

As for the first, I agree totally. Plus, life is too short to be a busybody. I sometimes think that the only people who spend their lives critiquing other people's lives are those with no life of their own...

trumancoyote

I wrestled with that for several years as well. My brother in law died about 9 years ago. He was just like a brother to me because my sister is 10 years older than me and they married when I was 8. He had been a part of my family since I was little. I regretted times I put him off or didn't listen to him. I regretted the times I wasn't able to be at his side while he was dying of cancer. But eventually I just came to deal with it all. He certainly doesn't fault me now for those times, and it is self defeating to fault myself. I loved him...still do. Adored him in fact, and he knew it...I believe he still knows it. I guess oit's more like having peace with it all rather than working on losing the regrets.

As for the first, I agree totally. Plus, life is too short to be a busybody. I sometimes think that the only people who spend their lives critiquing other people's lives are those with no life of their own...

AMEN! Coming from a tiny little town where you can quite literally look out your kitchen window and into the neighbor's living room, gossipy nosy neighbors are something I don't miss. Mom & dad still live there and whenever I talk with mom, I get to hear about sister so & so who bla bla bla. I think it's that mentality in general of the small town.

How old are your daughters, eldragon? I always vowed to do right by my children, too, and I do pretty well, but sometimes things just flare up. Had a tiff with my darling daughter a while ago, and ended up apologizing to my parents for ever having been a hormone-ridden teenager! Ah, well. That's life.

Which is too short to put off saying, "I'm sorry."

As for the links, I'd like to warn folks with dial-up that they'll take forever to load. Now I'm going over to my ex's house (he has broadband) just so I can view them. Arrrgh!

Life is too short to worry about being perfect or not doing something because you're scared you'll fail. Who cares if you fail? At least you tried.

Life is too short for a writer to not write every day. If you don't finish that book today you may not be here to finish it tomorrow.

I haven't posted on this in quite a while.

I think life is too short to be afraid of taking chances. If you have a dream, it's probably not going to fall into your lap unless you are really lucky.

Maybe it is my age creeping up on me, but I don't want to be old, looking back and wondering if I could have done the things I dreamed of.

I think what I really need is to lay out a good, workable budget to get there!

Hubby and I do agree on something: It would be worse to be on your death bed thinking about all the things you were too lazy or afraid to go for than to lay there thinking about the screw ups, ketchup sandwiches and clunker cars you had along the way to that dream.

Life is too short to turn down a handful of golden dandelion heads minus the stems handed to you by a 3 year old boy named Travis with tawny colored hair that curls behind his ears, eyes the color of pewter and a smile that could turn the darkest day to one filled with the brightest sunshine.
