View Full Version : what does banned mean if they pm me?

I wanted to check about when it says "banned" by a screen name. Is this a joke, or are they banned? I received my first pm, and it was from someone "banned", with 0 posts. Me thinks something is up...

It was just a welcome message with a link to a website, but I thought I had better check ... fishy with 0 posts...

I'm guessing it was spam. Banned means they are not allowed in the forum. For someone to be banned with no posts pretty much would have to be spam and the website link nails it. Spam. Disregard.

Oh....and welcome! :welcome:

They must've sent the PM before they were banned.

Thanks, I suspected something fishy. Weird thing is the profile says joined January, but no posts, and just sent the pm. Odd.

Thanks, I will ignore it.

Good instincts. :) If you haven't deleted it yet, I'd suggest forwarding it to one of the mods. (Maybe ChunkyC?) That way, if a lot of people got these, they can delete them before people open 'em.

Eek! Don't click it!

Yep, but the strange thing is, before i saw "banned", I did click it (embarrassed to say), though I looked at my browser before clicking to see the name of the website which seemed neutral, and it just forwarded to a website full of zen type quotes- not porn, etc.

i do still have it, and I can forward it as you suggested- let's see if I figure out how. :)

P.S.- I think I forwarded it right...

That's bizarre. A zen spammer. What is the sound of one spammer clapping?...

If you know the username, you can type it in directly. That's why I always end up forwarding to mods with the shortest user names.

Thanks, that is what I did, to ChunkyC, as you suggested.

If a spammer falls in the forest, does it make a sound?

Zen spammers. That's hilarious. You just made my day.

Don't feel alone, I got it too this morning. He/She must be attacking newbies with their Zen brainwash.

Seriously folks, if someone is spamming you via pm, let one of the forum mods know so we can kick their butts out of here.* :D

I turfed that one this morning, after another user got the same PM and poetinahat did a little spelunking to confirm the spam-osity.

Don't feel embarassed. I got the same e-mail. At the time, that member wasn't banned... but listed as an esteemed new member. So I replied welcoming him/her to AW and asking what kind of writing he/she did. I've never received spam on this board, so it never even occurred to me that it was.

Our mods are awesome about catching it quickly.

*sniffs* spammers never send me anything.

Lets see, if the spammer was in a cult, and at the beach, would he/she then not be a spam sand witch ? :)

SPAM SPELUNKING?

Dear dog, I think I just busted an artery laughing.

I love you guys.

I got a pm from that same person last week. I thought it was odd that the person said they were new, and yet showed they signed up in January and had 0 posts. So, being new here, I just said hi back and encouraged the person to post on the newbie board and introduce themself to everyone.
I love the spam jokes, by the way!

The spammers never pm me. Last year, EVERYONE got the porn spam except for me. I felt so lonely. :runs away crying:

You want porn spam...well, I could probably link you up :) Or, at least, send you a suggestive message. When I worked at the prison, I met some guys who would peek in your window - of course then they would slit your throat, but that's kinda like spam. :)

Forward it to 1000 people. It's the best way to make sure you can see how the banned thing works.

I don't really care what he or she is, I'm still holding out for a gyro.
