Define "Chick lit" for me. I'm a girl. I've read a lot of books. But this is a term I've only recently come across and I am not sure I am clear on the definiton.

Is it "grrl power stuff" is it just fiction forma feminie perspective. (For example, I love fantasy stuff, but am at the point of givingit up, can't find strong female caracters to root for)

Is it a new term for romance novels written for mainly a feminine audience?

According to Miss Snark, who should know, chick lit is dead.

Last September, I heard an editor say that the new thing -- or the thing-to-be, maybe -- is hen lit.

That's right, Spooky. And we won't tell you where the owner's manual is either.

Where would we be without Janet Evanovich - semi chic lit, but so funny everyone reads it - wife buys them, I read them - good reader can read two or three a day.

Oh, come on! We *all* read Clive Cussler...don't we?

In all seriousness, I think there's a market for a sort of fusing of chick lit and guy lit. You see it sometimes in SF and mystery, but I think the right story could really make some noise in mainstream fiction.

Look at Alias. Is there anything quite like that in pop literature?

I won't pick up another chick lit book until they start labeling the Shoe Porn. I've been burned too many times. Story begins with a harried female protagonist, sneaks in a bit about her shoes, introduces her stressful job that she can handle in her amazing shoes, then there's a sexy guy attracted with help from the confidence she gained from wearing her shoes, she's spending a third of her income on more shoes - shoes, shoes, shoes.
