Erotica from Male POV...

The traditional format of erotica/romance is from the leading lady's POV. A novella I'm currently writing features the male POV completely. In fact, all the roles are reversed. He's the young eager virgin, she's the one with the power, showing him the ropes, etc....

My concern is just that it seems like the general market expects stories to follow certain formats, including the male being dominating and in charge of the situation. Does anybody else think this is the generally accepted format? If so, what sort of markets should I look at when I'm ready to send this out?

Try Playgirl or magazines like that that cater to the female market?

For Male POV stories... apparently you've never read Playboy or Penthouse or Hustlers. Should I send you some? :grin

I have more Playboys and Hustlers and Penthouses than I'll ever admit to in public....

I think my main source of concern is that William is very much...well...he's a pretty socially awkward boy. It's written in his POV but I think he'd appeal more to female than males and maybe I worry too much....

I would say that most erotica/porn by far is for a male audience and from the male perspective. There is a significant (black lace etc) subset for a female audience and from the female perspective. Of course there are also strong markets for a female audience from a male point of view (i.e. MAS-zine -- NB this is a market that wants torture and other unpleasantness and is only open to gay characters, but there will be others around).

I think romance erotic often uses strong male characters but not necessarily 'in charge' the female still has to be the protagonist. And in terms of who is in control any and every approach is desired with particular demand for strong discipline/bondage stories with female doms (I think Unbound is looking for these, amongst others).

There are pleanty of broad pansexual markets. If the focus is on romance I and the manuscript is book length I would suggest Ellora's Cave.

As a woman, I too write a lot of stuff from the first person male pov or third person limited. Most of it is BD, though, so there is a niche for that (mistress with inexperienced, naive man). I think, though, whether writing for men or women or for a specific market, everyone likes to see a change in roles once in a while, even if it is not market standard. Just make sure it is well done!

put a alpha male in the story, but let the leading lady dictate the pace and storyline. guys love that stuff.
