Has anyone ever had a webzine edit their work after they've given permission to use?
Here's what happened to me. It was my first experience with webzines, so this may be normal and I just don't know it. I submitted a story and got an acceptance email. The submission guidelines on the website were very clear that there were three types of responses you could get: acceptance, acceptance pending edits, and rejection. Since I got a straight acceptance I assumed all was well. The story is out and I read through it and found that some deletions had been made. Nothing terribly extensive in quantity, really just a few paragraphs and one scene, but what was in those paragraphs and one scene was characterization and plot. Nothing was really edited - none of the language that was there had been changed, just paragraphs deleted.
Sound normal? Not normal? Anybody else have something similar happen? I would think if they wanted more porn and less plot, they would have asked me for edits. But maybe I'm wrong?
