Hard Case covers are FABULOUS. Apparently they have the worst time finding artists for those covers -- lots of artists can parody the old pulp covers, but few can create the art totally straight.

It's amazing what a good cover for a book can do. It can set the entire tone. I look at alternate or foreign covers to books sometime and wonder if I would have had a completely different experience reading the book if I did it with the other cover, and I think I would.

I love those Hard Case covers. It makes me want to write some noir detective fiction so I can have one!

Love the Hard Case covers.

In recent books, I really like Ian Rankin's new one.

Peter Spiegelman's Red Cat has some of that lurid pulp influence, and it really works well.

And Chris Bohjalian's The Double Bind, from my publisher, Shaye Areheart, is pretty cool.
