This is the first time anyone's ever requested more material from me. A contact at my dream agency just emailed me to ask me to send her more chapters and a synopsis by mail! Even if nothing comes of it, it's still a v. small ego boost.

Thanks all!

Because I'm more accustomed to the "eff-off-and-die" sort of correspondence, I'm wondering a few things. Should I shoot her off a quick email thanking her for the invitation and that the material is forthcoming in the mail to her attn? She didn't specify length of synopsis and the only one I have is a one-pager; is that good enough? She didn't specify how many more chapters she wanted; is the first five about right?

How much did you send initially? What exactly did she say--she wanted to read more material? If she didn't specify an amount, I'd send it all. LOL

All I sent initially, by email, were the first 20 pages attached, and my query letter in the body of the email.

Her request is: "Could you please mail in more sample chapters, a synopsis, and a brief bio or cv?"

I'd send the first 5 chapters. I think the "thanks and check your mailbox" email is a good idea. The one-page synopsis should be fine--it's ready, and you want to capitalize on her interest.

Fingers and toes crossed for you!

Congrats! make sure you note "Requested Material" somewhere on the envelope so it doesn't fall automatically into the slush pile.

Yay, CaroGirl! Mail as much as you can (5 chapters sound good), and best of luck with it! Sounds like she liked what she saw. :)

Thanks all!

Should I shoot her off a quick email thanking her for the invitation and that the material is forthcoming in the mail to her attn? Yes. This is a common business courtesy that will be appreciated. Then she knows you got her response. :)
She didn't specify length of synopsis and the only one I have is a one-pager; is that good enough? She didn't specify how many more chapters she wanted; is the first five about right?

If she didn't specify, I think that's fine. You might check the website and see if there's something already in their guidelines.Good luck, and CONGRATS! :D

Congratulations--that's great!

I agree with what everyone said.

5 chapters plus synopsis and CV might fit into one of those "priority mail" cardboard mailers you get at the post office--easy to package, pretty inexpensive to send, and you can get a delivery confirmation and tracking number for 50 cents!

Keep us posted....
