Ok, having been through all kinds of problems with weight (which are, thankfully, under control now), I am quite sensitive to other people and don't make comments. This situation, however, I couldn't stop myself...
I wear bike shorts at the gym (and/or bike pants, depending on how warm it is). Not exactly a fashion statement, but it's comfortable for working out. Sometimes, I don't bother to change after going to the gym if I'm going straight home.
Well, not long ago I needed to get gas on the way home. So there I am, at the pump, totally gym chic in black Spandex and a T-shirt. A couple of ladies walk by -- and they were fairly large -- and comment (in a nasty tone) about my fashion sense being 80's, ugly, etc.
I said, "Oh, it's not a fashion statement. I just came from the gym. You should try it sometime."
(Hey, they started it...)
