Have you ever used "aplomb" in a sentence?

Thank you for your response, Ben.

I'm deeply saddened that no one cares about "aplomb."

I suppose I should have called the thread "boobies." At least Truman would have been happy...

I've been living under the gross misapprehension that aplomb meant much the same as decorum, I'm disappointed to discover it doesn't:

aplomb n. skilful self-assurance. [French, = straight as a plummet]

decorum n. polite dignified behaviour

No, but I saw it used in a good limerick once.

I do recall using it once, though I forget the sentence, it's been so long.

Such an interesting-looking word.

I use it when I'm mocking myself, trying to sound debonair. At Thanksgiving I lost my grip on the platter and rolled the turkey onto the table. (It wasn't any the worse for the experience, although the same cannot be said of the table cloth.) I said, "And serving with her typical aplomb..." and everyone laughed.

It's a perfectly good word, and I happen to like it a lot more than Orlando Bloom (who I hear is not all that sure what it means).

Maryn, signing off with aplomb

Today I will eat a plomb instead of an apple. Happy now, Rob?

Maybe not a sentence, but a poem. About Shwebb.

Close, but no Garcia y Vega.

Can't say I've used "aplomb" before, but I'm sure that might change. As soon as I find a cure for procrastination.

agog is nothing like aplomb! They don't even have the same number of letters!

-Derek

You are being mean and wordist. 50% of the letters in agog are in aplomb. That is more that 50% of any two other words. If you don't retract what you said I am leaving this forum. Anyay, agog is a thing you can do with your ears which is more than can be said of aplomb.

I'm all agog with admiration at your petulant flounce threat. This should really be added to the list of flounce options. Consider my objections to agog well and truly retracted.

But I retracted! You can't flounce after I've retracted! That's incredibly gauche and an unforgivable social faux pas.

Yes, I know you have retracted. Nevertheless I cannot retract my flounce since I was so deeply offended by your wordist attack that to retract now would scar me forever. So the flounce is going to happen, in spite of your retraction.
