I just finished the rough draft to my first novel. It's an epic fantasy, and tops off at 140,846 words, though I already know I'm deleting one of the chapters.

I'm going to take a month or two hiatus and try to get some book cover work (my goal is to publish and paint my own covers).

For some reason, I felt like writing THE END would feel a bit more momentous. I feel almost...disappointed. Is that strange?

I'm hoping to feel a bit more "Woohoo!" in a few minutes, when it starts to sink in. :hooray:

Whenever I was feeling down and out, and that I would never finish, reading the posts on this board have been a great inspiration. A heartfelt thank you to all you folks!

Stupendous! Though I couldn't leave it alone for one or two minutes.

:hooray: Huge congrats! and on the self-control to leave it alone for two months. It's definitely worth it - even if the temptation to start meddling - uh, editing - bites;)

Congrats! It's always nice to type "The End," especially when you've tpyed up 140,000 words before it. Hopefully, it sinks in for you and you get more fulfillment out of being finished.

Not to me. When I finished my first, typing 'the end' just felt normal. Nothing special. At the time it was sort of disappointing, since I'd expected some kind of high. But later I realized, maybe that's okay. Maybe that means I'm supposed to write novels. And maybe it's the same with you. :)

Whatever the case, finishing a novel is huge. Big congratulations to you! :D

Not strange at all, actually. I didn't know whether I should be happy or sad when I did the same on mine this past Friday.

Congrats. :)

Yay congrats!! Little happy dance! Though I can understand how writing the end can be anti-climactic. I mean, you've spent so much time with this MS and now, now you don't have to anymore (at least not for a while). So um . . . now what?

Still, little happy dance!
