Figured I'd tinker with a poll just for grins, and possibly to help us gain some more information about each others' writing and reading habits.

From the 8 choices, pick the sort of MC you prefer to read OR to write about. I tried to grab the main types, but I'm sure I missed one somewhere, so if you pick 'Other' please post your preference.

You can vote for more than one character type, too. Have fun!

Pioneers and Indians are my favorite. But I had to add gunslingers and gamblers too. Doc Holliday is one of my favorite characters.

Yes I know he was a real person.
Yeah, and a very interesting one to boot. Have you read Matt Braun's novel about him yet?

Doc was kind enough to allow me to use an image of him as my avatar.:)

Soldiers of course. Blue or Gray, I like 'em both since both are in my tree. Old, old profession for my family.

Miners. My great, great, great grandpappy was a West Virginia coal minor. My brother used to prospect for gold and ran a slue in Alaska.

I'm not much into trappers. We used to run a trap line up north.........hated it.

How about rogue clergy, cleansing the west of sinners with bible and sixgun. :)

Wasn't there a Robert Mitchum movie like that?

Roust-a-bouts I guess would be.........gunslingers? or Others?

I looked at some of my WIPs and listed Gamblers, Gunslingers, Lawmen, and Other (civilian). Then I realized I should'a selected Outlaws too (slaps head!) given my bank robber protag in Down Mexico Way.

'Five Card Stud', with Dean Martin. Robert Mitchum was killing the guys who played cards with his brother the night he was hanged for cheating. :)

Hell, I voted for them all. Storekeeps, bartenders anyone there that breathed could be made into a MC.

Yeah, the life of a small western town as seen through the eyes of a Barkeep through it's establishment by miners, the gold rush, pioneers, gamblers, lawmen...
Maybe generations of Bartenders.

I'm gonna go noodle with this.

It is like the whole "you end up writing about yourself" type of thing. . . I chose gambler.

What does that say about me? I chose outlaws.

Then again, I think Weren's right. (My other choices, had I known I could do more than one, were gambler and gunslinger. The checkered past shows through no matter what you do!)
