View Full Version : Air Canada stewardess info wanted

I'm gearing up to rewrite one of my more recent novels, and I've been toying with the idea of having my main character work as a stewardess for Air Canada during the late fifties, say, between 1956-1959. I'm very interested in how long it would train a stewardess then, what kind of qualifications she might need, what kind of uniform she'd wear, and what height restrictions there might have been on stewardesses at that time.

I've hunted all over the Internet for something on this, but I can't find anything. :o Any information at all would be greatly appreciated!

For one thing, Air Canada was Trans-Canada Airlines then.

Here's a clip I found. Great stuff: 2 flight attendants who've been in the business 40 years. (broadcast in 1995) http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-73-1125-6187/politics_economy/air_canada/clip4

The text of the clip also mentions a book of the history of Air Canada. There's a whole lot about the history of the company on the page before this one.
