I'm sure many people back home don't realize that the horse/mule calvary exist today.

Yeppers. In some places in Iraq, and certainly in Afghanistan we are using horses and mules to do patrols with. Thanks to the mountainous region, it's real awkward to get vehicles back into places. As a result, some units have gone Cav. We even have our own medical people certified in animal husbandry (vets, techs, food specialists).

Of course, the first horse I get is a chestnut named...........Rebel. It was love at first sight, after I picked myself up from the ground where I fell, after Rebel ran me into a post.

This got me thinking about a new western piece.......enough to where I put my steampunk one on hold.

It's about two cav troopers, using two of the guys in are unit as examples. Both are from the south, 1 black, 1 white. Good friends in the unit and outside the unit. 1 is kinda mellow, the other a hothead.

The actual WIP starts out post-civil war as they're heading home from the war and deals with their trials, troubles, and difficulties

And I gotta run. BBL

It sounds really interesting.

What parts of the country were you planning on having them cross? Are there any specific encounters you plan to run them up against?

Starts out with black character (Curls) riding across a plains/valley in a wagon with his family. A patrol of bluebellys stop 'em and begin to give him grief for wearing a reb coat.

At this point the white character (Bo)comes riding up and joshs along with the bluebellies to find out what their intentions are.

When he realizes their up to no good he coldcocks the Sgt of the group and shoots one of the of the soldiers while Curls wounds another as does Curl's son.

The one bluebelly who didn't cotton to the harrassment is spared (and returns later on in the story as reminder of doing what's right and what's not).

Bo and Curls move on together.

From there we move on to where Curls and his family settle down. Bo decides to throw in his lot with some chinese argonauts and work a sluice in a nearby gold field.

While Bo is in town, some local badguys rob the camp and kill the chinese partners. Bo starts to track and 'em down with plans of giving 'em some lead payback.

At this point he follows their trail by Curls place, who saw the badguys passing through.

And so on and so on.
