The man's a genius.

A comedic genius. Good to see he has such a caring son.

Excellent article, I'm in the beginning stages of this myself though my father is not a widower -- merely alone in his marriage.

Long live Mel Brooks!

"Wait a minute. My name's not Alvin. That's not my life. Someone else's life is flashing before my eyes. What the hell is that about? I'm not a hillbilly, I grew up in the Bronx. Leo's taken everything from me... Even my past!"

That was one heck of a good read. Mel's son sounds like a terrific guy. Thanks Jaycinth.

I love Mel Brooks and it was sad to lose a great actress. This is a wonderful article for a son to write about his father. My two favorite movies of his are High Fidelity and Life Stinks. Thanks for the article Jay.

I love this essay, Jaycinth. Beautiful and moving.

And a great tribute to a great, funny man.

A man who knows the best revenge is to be able to stand up at the offending person and laugh at him. Even if it is Hitler.

Curmudgeon, you! <g>

I don't think the holocaust is funny. But I do think that making fun of someone as heinous as Hitler was is a good thing. Laughter is the most powerful, to me. Makes the bogeymen much smaller, takes their power away.

But I can understand why someone would feel the way you do, too, Kevin.
