I'm going to have my female protag name her two cats after a famous romantic couple and I'm looking for some suggestions, they need to be well know as so the reader will immediately get the irony since my character normally comes across as cold and unfeeling.

Of course Romeo and Juliet immediately come to mind but they're a little too obvious for my tastes, and while Rhett and Scarlett of "Gone with the Wind" are not out of the realm of possibility they suffer from the same problem.

I'm sure the answer is staring me right in the face but at the moment I'm drawing a blank, any help will be appreciated.

Fred and Ginger? So they were never romantically linked, at least not an acknowledged. ;) But it's still romantic.

Depending on what you're writing - how about Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning? Or, Anthony and Cleopatra. Puma

Now that I think about it, given her background I can't see her naming them after any actors or actresses, just fictitious characters, preferably from a novel since she's a die-hard romance novel addict. And again it has to be a couple of names the the vast majority of readers will be able to place right away.

What I'm aiming for is sort of like the old joke of the hard boiled, mean looking biker whom looks as if he could kill with just a stare, only to have everyone find out that he likes to knit or write sappy poetry in his spare time. While its not quite that severe in her case it is sort of along those same lines, I want to give the reader a chuckle or two when they find out what she calls them.
