I've been typing for 25 years. Yep, I'm only 30 now, but what can I say? I've always enjoyed writing stories and when my mother bought a typewriter when I was roughly 5, I ended up using it more than she did.
It was one of those skanky old split-level keyboard things, and I kept getting my fingers grazed between the keys.
Eventually I learned to touch type, through habit. Friends have suggested going to typing school, but I don't see the point. I've said, "Why bother? I can already do 60wpm without trying!" Maybe I don't use exactly the right finger for exactly the right key according to someone else's way of doing things, but like I said, 60wpm with high accuracy, not looking at the keyboard, using all fingers and both thumbs works for me.
I sometimes write in longhand, but that's only when I want to slow the pacing down during an edit.
