View Full Version : Sports Interview Question

Hello everyone! I've secured an interview with John Amaechi, the former NBA player who is coming out next week. I'm so excited, and I feel like this could be a big break for me. What I need help with is figuring out where to query. Do you have any suggestions for magazines or other locations to send a query letter to?

I assume there are some basketball mags - but I could be wrong....

Gay mags would be a natural market as well, although I expect most have been, and will be, all over this story.

I think the sports mags are likely to have their own people on this. The guy's written a book and the buzz going around now is all part and parcel of its promotion.

I'd approach it from the human interest angle and consider general interest magazines as a target market. "Gay" isn't taboo anymore in the mainstream media and I think only ultra-conservative markets would shy away from an interview.

Good luck.

I second the idea of going with a purely human interest approach. You might search for health and fitness mags outside the "sports" arena.

What about Men's Health? at http://www.menshealth.com/.
