dahmnait is right, it's sometimes called an earworm.

According to a Google search, the more scientific term is "auditory imagery".

According to a few different links, earworm.

Another source for the term http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~kemmer/Words04/neologisms/e.html. Apparently the term was coined in 2003, so I don't know if it is even used.

I use it all the time.

As do a lot of my friends. We just *LOVE* to give someone an earworm and watch them suffer muchly!

My favorite song for the purpose is "Total Eclipse of the Heart".

"Turn around. Every now and then I get a little bit tired and I....Turn around bright eyes.....Every now and then I fall apart....Turn around bright eyes...."

You are wicked! :tongue

I like the term and will use it from here on out.

Just as soon as I get my earworm cleaned out.

Here, this will get any earworm out of your head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCJxXZngzbk

Side effects include barfing and poking your eyes out.

Evil! Evil! Evil!

Fortunately the title bar loaded before the video so I could close down the window before I was infected.

My sister and I engage in earworm wars. If I have a song stuck in my head I share it with her, then she'll try to infect me later with another song.

Earworm Wars: there are no winners, only losers!

Oh, you had to go there:

But I prefer the "Vampires In Love" version from "Dance of the Vampires":

Turn around
Every now and then I get a little bit lonely but I don't know what I miss
turn around
every now and then I get a little bit desperate and I wonder what it is I desire
turn around
every now and then I get a little bit nervous about all the years gone by
turn around
every now and then I get a little bit terrified but then I see the look in your eyes
turn around
every now and then I hear a voice
turn around
every now and then I hear
turn around
every now and then I get a little bit restless and I dream of something wild
turn around
every now and then I get a little bit helpless and I'm lying like a child in your arms
turn around
every now and then I get a little bit curious and what it's like to be a woman and dream
turn around
every now and then I get a little bit terrified but then I see you coming for me
turn around
every now and then I fall apart
turn around
every now and then I fall apart
turn around

*male voice*

and I need you now tonight
and I need you more than ever
and if you'll only hold me tight
we'll be holding on forever
and we'll only be making it right
cause we'll never be wrong
together we can take it to the end of the light
my love's like a shadow on you all the time
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark

*girl*
we're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks

*both*
I really need you tonight
forever's going to start tonight
forever's going to start tonight

*girl*
once upon a time I was falling in love
now I'm only falling apart
there's nothing I can do, a total eclipse of the heart

once upon a time there was light in my life
now there's only love in the dark
nothing I can say, a total eclipse of the heart!

Maybe it's because of the powerhouse voices of Steve Barton (original Raoul in "Phantom of the Opera" went on to play the Phantom in Europe and originated the role of Count von Krolock in the Austrian premier of "Tanz Der Vampire") and Elaine Caswell (playing "Sarah" in the demo - she's a session singer, did a few duets with Joe Cocker and was the powerhouse voice behind the group Pandora's Box who originally did "It's All Coming Back To Me Now") that makes this a better version.

Plus, it's a great duet with a great story. In it, the older wicked vampire von Krolock is seducing the young, niave and innocent Sarah into his arms and the embrace of his 'unstillbare gier'. It's a 'darker' version of the song. (and to hear it in the original German is maddening!)

But the Bonnie version is still a great one to listen to as well.
