......I would sit there, quietly, on the phone and stammer out something about wondering what sort of tea I should have. I love the concept, but I'd make an absolute twit of myself. Not for me, alas.

I do wonderfully in person with anyone, and in phone conversations with people I know. Otherwise....meep.

This seems to be more of a clever marketing promotion for Blind Submission than anything else. But I guess since it doesn't cost you anything...

Apparently they are afraid of the power of Canadian writers?

LOL I entered and if they call me...I'll stammer about how my novel is beyond words...then they'll hang up on me after 15 minutes. It's worth the shot all the same.

I was interested until I got to this direction. Then I realized it wasn't for me.

I don't think I have what it takes to be the next big thing.

Maybe the next medium thing, but not the next big thing.

I don't even want to be the next big thing - that sounds tiring.

I'd settle happily for the next average thing, or the next pretty darn good thing when you're finished with the great thing. Or the next thing we found very enjoyable. Is that a catagory?

"What makes you the next big thing?"

"Er. Um. I don't know. I, like, write good? Stories?"

"I see. And what makes your story unique from all others?"

"I....I......*bursts into tears and hangs up wailing*"

Neat contest, but I want REPRSENTATION, not CONSULATATION.

I don't have any problem telling why I'd be the next big thing:

"At least for the early part of my writing career, I'm willing to whore myself out to what's selling, generating bubble-gum pop fiction that will fly off the shelf just so that I can afford to quit the day job. After that, I'll focus on 'art' and 'fiction that matters' if I'm rich enough."

But no, sorry, having a chat just doesn't seem like a big-enough prize for me.
