I'm working on one of my WIPs today since Mom Nature gave me 4 inches of snow to keep me from my cubicle, and I really want to solve a problem:

I need to change my protag's brother's name. Too many "D" names in this book, so "David" has to become something else. His first name is Kevin but he switches to his middle name in college, because Kevin's his father's name too (no love lost there), and that's where I go blank. I like the idea that his middle name is his mom's maiden name, but so far I haven't come across the "right" name. (I know, I'm obsessing, but that's what I do.:))

Mom's name: Constance
Bro's name so far: Kevin [ ] Peck

So, any names that work as a surname to Constance will be greatly appreciated! If they sound "lawyerly" & come with a good nickname, that'd be cool too.

Just throw 'em out -- whenever I brainstorm here I get the best ideas, & my problems are always solved. So, thanks in advance! :)

Thanks Kate & alleycat! :)

More? Anyone?

This is the first time I'm forcing a name onto a character & it feels very weird . . . I should just pick one & stop thinking about it.

I like to use last names as first names -- probably a holdover from my years in South Carolina, where it was practically mandatory to name your child Tradd or Seawall or Pinckney or Middleton.

Why not use Constantine as a male variant of Constance? It's a power name.

I didn't think anyone would be interested -- but it's Graham. They were all good suggestions, and I liked Gray a lot too (it's very lawyerly & hot). Maybe it can be his nickname? :)

Thanks again, everyone! :)

Surname, first name, whatever: there are no rules!

My adorable 3yo son's name is Bennett. Ben for short.
