Happy New Year!

My goal for January is to finish my first draft of DCMTDW(which is in desperate need of a new name)

Today I clocked in with 1900 words. I just didn't have it in me to make it a full 2K :D

Happy New Year!

My goal is 2,000 words a day. Today: Just over 2K

I'd like to see the first draft of my WIP completed by mid-February.

Looking forward to checking in.

I'm IN (again? still?) Anyway, I already told you that it was about 800 for today, written just around midnight. How else was I supposed to stay awake?

Alas, I was overtaken by the holidays! However, I wrote 590 words this morning and hope to do more this afternoon and evening. My goal is to finish the first draft of my SF/fantasy by the end of the month. I've also done some mental plot revisions on the mystery, which I think will make for a more entertaining story.

My goals for the first half of 2006 are:

1) Turn my first draft of my first mystery novel into a better, revised second draft.
2) Complete the first draft of my second novel.

I write in spurts and stops, a daily quota doesn't work well for me. I'll write 16,000 words in 5 days then nothing for two weeks. What can I say?

I just finished the first draft of my paranormal mystery. while that's breathing, I'm going to go back over my diva manuscript and rework that, then i have a few others I want to rework. I want 2007 to be a great year for writing!

Happy New Year to all!

My first priority: Get my first book published. Yes it will probably go under teen fiction but every one of you will buy two copies :)

2nd: Open up to new minds and ideas.

I wrote 1024 new words (hey, that's a magic number in data processing!) and knitted together some of my stray fragments. Wow, you people make me feel inferior! ;)

Maybe I actually need to be pressed for time to get any work done. Heh.
This is spot-on for me, at least.

756 today (scene I've been trying to write all weekend), so not too bad, I guess. And I'm into the middle now, where I got hung up the last time, so no existing scenes to draw on for a while. (I have a good bit from near the end.) Will definitely need this accountability to push through!

Hiya! I've been sick, and have been peeking in but haven't posted.

I wrote/rewrote about 1200 words in the past few days--but it really changes the beginning of my book, and now I'm thinking of scrapping it. Maybe. Can't decide just yet.

Also started making blog notes (which for me don't really count towards my word count--I'm just sayin'). I hate adding another thing to my plate, but maybe--just maybe--having a blog could be fun.

Back in a bit to give out some suns, if anybody wants one. Or tomorrow, if the benadryl has me dozing off soon. :)

If I started a blog, that would trash my writing for sure! I don't know how people manage to do both. That would be another couple of hours gone out of my day that I could be using to push people around on the page.

AnnieColleen -- Don't ever, EVER, feel inferior. Some of us just got more words written than you did, that's all. Some of what we've written may go into the trash on rewrite too. Nothing is engraved in stone -- especially not first drafts. *laughter*

Nothing written today, but I got off my fanny and started editing a novel that deserves a hard edit and re-write. I've edited 100 pages in the last two days (roughly 25K). This isn't a rought draft though, so the edit went pretty quickly. The rough part will be the last three chapters. I've decided they need a complete rewrite and I've changed the end. Ack! Congrats Wildscribe! Don't sweat it too much. Pregnancy always did a number on my brain. I became the most absent minded person ever. It also made me unreasonably bitchy. Heh heh. The thought makes me giggle now, but at the time....

I've done more pages (I'm too lazy to count.) and I made some hard decisions to cut a storyline that I like and that was funny, but did nothing to advance the story or characters. Sigh.

I've gotten clumsy, too. I broke a coffee pot at work yesterday, and I've nearly fallen over getting on and off of my chair several times now (I have one of those ones that you kneel on). At least now I know why I've been out of it for a couple of weeks. And why the smell of my BO has changed... that one was confusing at first.

ETA: I just figured out what ETA means after wondering for... well, a few weeks at least. I'm proud of myself for wrapping my brain around it at last. Anyway, what I wanted to say was that I've got about 2,100 words today, grand total, all paid work. If only I got a by-line for any of it! ;)

I may get back to it later this evening, after I sort out a few plot thingies in my mind. At least I figured out a way to introduce a villain without having my protagonists be stupid enough to walk into his lair. I hate it when characters do stupidly irrational things.

811 words on my WIP today, for a total of 120 pages in Times. I'm excited, but also a little nervous. This is the scary part of the book that I want to read through as fast as possible, but it is much harder to write fast. (By scary I mean full of ugly emotions.)

Isn't it a bummer when you have to do something like that! I once had to bash in the head of a character that I really liked, and I dithered around over that for a full week before I could bring myself to write it. The other thing I don't like is betrayal scenes. It hurts my soul to put those poor trusting li'l people through that kind of mental anguish.

So far, I've gotten 6,000 into my current WIP (that's since the beginning of January.) I'm lagging behind... Argh!

WildScribe, I hear you about writing the rape scene - my first book (the one I'm now trying to get an agent for) had one in it and it about killed me to write it. After I did, I don't think I touched the MS for days.

Thanks for the support, guys. It was killing me to have to write it and not do it, but I really didn't want to. I buckled down and got through it, and now I feel much better. I'm gonna hate it all over again on the edit, though.

It's always hard to read stuff like that - I never thought about how it must feel to write it. I was also afraid to write it because people seem to assume that because the MC is my age, it is autobiographical. I HAVE NEVER BEEN RAPED! But I'm not sure how I feel about people who know me reading this. Deep breath...

Hi all....haven't been by this neck of the forum in a while, since I wasn't writing for a while (varied reasons, and some of them I don't even know what they are). But over the last three days I got a first draft of a 3000 word SF story done, and I'm starting revisions today. Plus I have a new short story idea all ready to start drafting, possibly also today.

It feels so good to be back in the groove. :D

I didn't read the whole of this thread, but WildScribe....:e2arms: huggg. You're a strong person to tackle that head-on. Good for you. :)

1163 on the WIP, plus 300 on a synopsis -- for a grand total of 1463. I finished the climactic scene, and now need to write two short scenes to wrap the whole thing up and take care of a few loose ends. It stands at 51,043 at the moment, and I'm hoping to finish those two short scenes later tonight.

I wrote my last two scenes (1038 words), did a spell check, and handed the mss (52,081) over to my beta reader. I should explain that I work in "edit as you go" style, always reading back over part of the WIP and making changes when I start writing on it each day. That means I have only minimal editing to do at the end.

I'll take off a few days now, and be back with you at the start of the February thread, when I go back to work on the mystery that I started. This thread has been very useful for me -- thanks, everybody!

I swore I'd never do this, but I decided to take a break from my WIP and start another one, maybe scrap WIP#1 completely. I haven't written a word all week, I'm just trying to work on an outline for my next story.
The book I was writing was... to tell you the truth, I don't know what the heck it was. I kept twisting it back and forth and I couldn't find the focus so now I'm just letting it sit. Maybe coming back to it in a few weeks will help me get a new perspective.

So on to the next story. I'm not exactly sure what it's going to be yet. I want it to be a mystery, but I don't know whether I want it to be young adult or not. I'm working on it.

Em
