last night (New Year's Eve). He'd gone to a party, and I'd warned him several times about driving defensively on his way home.

He must've taken it to heart, because he was going 20 mph in a residential zone, so he wouldn't hit the parked cars on either side of the street. The cop pulled him over and asked what he'd been drinking; my son stammered "Dr. Pepper." He then had him 'walk the line,' as he still wasn't convinced an 18-yr. old would drive that slowly unless snockered.

He made his momma proud.

was he arrested?

No :) . He passed the line test.

He hadn't been drinking (the party was at a coffeeshop/gaming center). My son doesn't drink anyway because of all the meds he takes daily.

Holy crap, how nerve-wracking. Poor baby. I'm glad that the jitters didn't make him dork up the test.

You and me both...if he'd done a breathalizer, it might've shown an illegal amount of Dr. Pepper in his system. ;)

Dr. Pepper always makes me think of the time I lived in Texas. It somehow doesn't go anywhere else as well.

That said, I'll bet it makes a lousy booze mixer. Blech.

Blech is right. ('Course what would you expect from something that tastes like fizzy cough syrup?)

I heard that that taste, you know the one that separates it from other dark colas, is prunes.

I almost never drink soda, but when I do it's Dr. Pepper. (Or root beer.)

You must've been born here. Sorry. ;)

I was born in Oklahoma, but within two months I got bored and crawled to the state line.

Did my stint in Houston when I was fourteen.

Beyond that, my hometown is Washington, DC.

And now you know more than you ever wanted to! Lol! Sorry.

Well, we're twins in reverse!

I was born in D.C., and ended up here in Dr. Pepperland after I married a Houston-born boy. (I think it's the teenage years that determine the allegiance to DP.)

Reminds me of the time a friend of mine flipped his car on prom night. None of us had been drinking--we didn't drink ever, in fact--but the cop on the scene refused to believe us because we were teenagers and it was prom night. (P.S. Friend was completely fine. Car, not so much.)

I had a dentist named Dr. Smiley.
Over lunch one day, my mom told me her new "female doctor" went by the name of Dr. Lipps. She knew I'd get a kick out of hearing that, though her timing was off.

On topic, a good friend of mine is a sheriff's deputy, and he claims one of the best ways to spot impaired drivers is to look for those who drive too cautiously. A dead ringer is the slow poke traveling well under the speed limit. So if you're going to drink and drive, act less responsibly.

Yes, by all means, drive very, very fast. We want you off the roads as soon as possible.
I was going to place a smiley after that last sentence, but I cut back on using emoticons for the new year.

Looks like I'd better get back to using them right away.:)
