3200 more words on the WIP. Closing in on that first draft by the end of September goal...

09-05-2007, 01:14 AM
About 3230 tonight. Getting dangerously close to the end of the first draft!

09-05-2007, 03:53 PM
37,820 is now my total right now. I am so very happy that this rewrite is going so well!

Alyssa and Sabine almost got in to a cat fight last night! RAR!!!

09-05-2007, 04:19 PM
I think I wrote 2000 words last night. I started a new short story and I was hoping to walk a fine line between horror and humour but I've already added unnecessary detail. I do it all the time, I like plump stories. So, I guess I'm gonna go the horrific route. I'll try to make the next one more ha-ha than hack-hack. ^_^

I'm shooting for, oh, about 22 pages with this one I think. I'll know when I'm further into the trenches. ^_^

09-06-2007, 04:40 PM
I didn't write anything yesterday, but I did do a plot blocking session and have all of the rest of my scenes blocked out (at least the vital ones.) I have to agree with Connie Willis (in an ISBW interview.) It feels really good to know where this story is going to end up. I am starting to fear revisions.

This thread is great! I'm really staying on track. I  Ray.

09-06-2007, 04:52 PM
3000 words yesterday. Nearing the halfway point on my second draft.

09-06-2007, 05:04 PM
1500 this morning. Cuz stupid everybody wouldn't stupid well stop stupidly bugging me. *fuming*

09-07-2007, 03:52 PM
I wrote about a page yesterday and I might have squeezed out a half a page last night. I can't really remember what or if I wrote. I think my fella broke up with me last night and after that I was really out of it. I'll have to count my words and my tears later today when I can stand to look at my story. >.<

09-07-2007, 03:55 PM
Yesterday: 3700 words on my second draft.

09-07-2007, 09:21 PM
I usually avoid this thread. I don't what to know how productive you all are being while I'm diddling a word here, a phrase there, kind of locked into not-ready by my own fears of failure.

That said: I did the second draft of my query letter just now, and after I get something to drink, I think it's time to begin the synopsis, which'll be even harder.

Maryn, inching forward on her belly (does it make my butt look big?)

09-07-2007, 10:49 PM
Managed to write about 700 words yesterday. Just woke up so nothing yet today.

09-08-2007, 01:13 AM
Did some stuff on 'Unearthed'. Not enough, but had to fight off a major depression that left me in bed til 11.30. Did some character stuff on TV lawyer idea.

09-08-2007, 02:29 AM
I finished off chapter 17 of Third Strike and spat out the first 200 words or so of chapter 18 while I was on a roll.

09-09-2007, 02:13 AM
I wrote five words.

But don't think badly of me. They were all tweaks in a completed ms. that I'm about to send out into the world of agentry.

09-09-2007, 02:30 AM
I think about 1000 words in Blue. And then I started editing LC, which inevitably led to some scene switching, and more original prose...

So... maybe 1500 words?

09-09-2007, 11:34 AM
Nothing. Today was a gardening day, pruning shrubs, laying down compost and planting spring bulbs. My hands hurt! I think I'll have to put some horticulture-related squences in my WIP since it's all fresh in my mind.

Nothing for me, either. I've decided that, aside from Chapter 17 and the end of another chapter in my manuscript, I'm done. I'll be submitting it to an agent, hopefully, within the next couple days via snail mail, and probably sometime in the near future I'll get up enough gumption to start work on my Untitled piece.

09-10-2007, 03:13 AM
Today I moved forward by two pages by virtue of playing the Lord of the Rings Two Towers soundtrack (The Complete Recordings set) for inspiration. Not that my story is anything like, but the music sets a certain tone.

09-10-2007, 03:14 AM

I am on final revisions to Stargazer, which will go to my editor Friday morning at the absolute latest. Chapter One STILL needs work, but I've ironed out pretty much everything else. Today I adjusted scenes in Chapters 14 and 18, and I'm about to add something slightly actiony to Chapter 22. I have to be very careful with this -- I am only 1000 words shy of the absolute longest the book can be -- but I think I've got room, particularly if I shorten Chapter One.

Back to work!

09-10-2007, 09:37 AM
By the way, congratulations on finishing, and good luck!

Thank you kindly. :) The manuscript is now all printed out and ready to be copied. I plan on sending out a portion of it tomorrow via snail mail. The only thing I need to work on is a title page, a synopsis, and finding a manila envelope to stuff the thing into.

So the work is officially finished, and I look forward to submitting it ... even though I'm tempted to go over the entire monster one final time.

09-10-2007, 10:35 AM
I managed to bang out the last 2,000 words of the chapter I've been working on for two weeks. At 28 pages it's too long for the amount of ground it covers, but while writing it I finally nailed down my main POV character's personality. The dang thing is starting to be one of those door-stopper fantasy novels, though. I'd better be prepared to slice and dice when I finally get down to editing.

09-10-2007, 10:47 AM
I'm wrote my first short story in a new blog I started just to sharpen my writing skills. It's part fiction, part non-fiction about experiences I've had in school. So we'll see how it goes.

09-10-2007, 07:51 PM
50 words toward the WIP before our male cat, Gleep, demanded attention.

Otherwise, he leaves "presents" on the carpet.

09-10-2007, 08:30 PM
>1,000 words - well not today today, but I didn't stop till about 1 am last night. It's one of those stories that could really go places but working through it is like shovelling your way through a stack of manure...:)

09-11-2007, 02:52 AM
1000 something last night.. :)

09-11-2007, 03:15 AM
400 words. And it was all drivel. *sigh*

09-11-2007, 06:33 AM
Drew a blank, so far. It's probably time to work with another character for a while.

09-11-2007, 07:12 AM
About 2000 words. Finally passed the halfway point in the WIP. I love that feeling. It means I'm closer to the end than to the beginning. :D

09-11-2007, 08:22 AM
I rewrote an opening scene, which was only about 150 words but certainly much better than what used to be there. I'm just incredibly glad to have something else there because it was bothering me for over month.

Sean D. Schaffer
09-11-2007, 05:44 PM
6,250 words last night. I'm not kidding. 25 pages of typewritten manuscript that will be the first in the final version of the book I've been working on for the last two-and-a-half years.

I'm amazed what deciding to shut the DSL off can do for my desire to finish a project. I can almost taste the book being published. I'm happy.

09-11-2007, 05:52 PM
About 3100 last night. Was at that point where i rwas getting into it but it was getting late. So i thought, sod it i'll write some more and before I knew it, 3100 was the result!

09-12-2007, 06:20 PM
Just over 2000 last night. In the zone again, hoping for the same target tonight.

09-13-2007, 06:25 AM
~400 in The Dragon Stone this morning. Not bad, considering I hadn't worked on it for about two months. Hopefully I can get back up to speed soon cause I have a lot of ground to cover.

Sean D. Schaffer
09-13-2007, 10:04 AM
Nothing today, unfortunately. And I'm too tired to write anything tonight. Tomorrow, maybe I'll get some serious writing done.

I hope. :)

09-13-2007, 04:29 PM
I wrote out pages of background, some notes and part of a general outline for a story I'm thinking of doing for NaNoWriMo. I had already written part of the outline previously, but I haven't actually written any of the story itself. I find it funny that I can fill pages with notes, ideas, worldbuilding, character sketches, scenery discriptions and outlines, but I balk at writing the actual story. I hope that giving myself a deadline will help. I also hope the two hours of alone time that I will have each day, now that my youngest two are attending school, will help. :)

09-13-2007, 04:36 PM
3,400 words on my second draft.

09-13-2007, 08:01 PM
~400 more words on The Dragon Stone so far. I have a short shift at work today so I have plenty more time to write.

09-14-2007, 03:16 AM
A 1500 word short story. I win.

09-14-2007, 08:40 AM
I managed to drag 750 words out of myself tonight. Not very inspired words. But it would have been zero words had I not reminded myself that I have permission to write crap.

09-14-2007, 04:00 PM
Nothin' yet but the day ain't over yet! (see below)

“When dogs sleep, they always dream about chasing stuff, men dream about what to do with it once they’ve caught it.” Townsend Twainhart from “Rattlesnake Don’t taste like Chicken.”

09-14-2007, 04:32 PM
1300 last night. Vital bit of writing.

09-14-2007, 07:40 PM
~650 in The Dragon Stone today. No idea where I'm going but it's certainly fun finding the proverbial road. ;)

I'm currently plotting out a war that's essentially going to encompass the bulk of my third act.

I'm finding it to be very complicated, and a little frustrating, but mostly I'm just having a lot of fun. This is a blast, to basically be able to mastermind the course of several battles taking place.

09-15-2007, 06:04 PM
Another 600 to The Dragon Stone. I'm quite pleased at my progress. I've written more in the last four days than I have in the last two months.

09-18-2007, 01:22 AM
My typing is improving Lol...

Oh Kimmi...same here. Gisela is still shocked somehow...so I keep copying...but Gisela has poked me few times when she has seen few...interesting sentences. So...maybe she'll be back from her vacation soon...but you never know. Anyway, my desire to write is back, even if it is only copying.

Just a couple of paragraphs on the WIP, but I obsessed over them until they looked okay.

09-18-2007, 04:46 AM
Last night I reworked, then edited, the first chapter of the third draft of my WIP. About 3000 words.

Today, I worked on the second draft of a short story. About 1000 words so far. I'm returning to the novel this evening, and I'm hoping to get through revisions on the second chapter.

09-18-2007, 04:54 AM
Besides this day off?*

*Tip o' the nib to Bill Amend and his comic strip FoxTrot!

09-18-2007, 08:15 AM
1,000 and counting. Slow and steady.

09-18-2007, 09:00 AM
Let's see, an essay, yawn, a laboratory report, a lot of math stuff(all the preceding for college), a few posts, and anything I happened to type into a search engine, add all that up I've got exactly 0:cry:
, but my first drafts are really good, tomorrow will be better, tomorrow will be better, it's tomorrow, time to start, again.
Life gets in the way of making writing feel lifelike.

09-20-2007, 09:57 AM
Not much. Bought me a new camera and spent the evening discovering that it's way more camera than I thought I was buying. Took some pictures of my feet. They were all out of focus.

09-20-2007, 05:54 PM
Maybe you should write an article about not how to take photoes.

09-20-2007, 08:41 PM
+600 to The Dragon Stone, almost all of it dialogue. Haven't written anything for the last couple days, letting the ideas percolate while I got some non-writing stuff done. It's so very hard not to go back and start revising, but I'm sticking with my plan so far. I will not edit even one letter until I reach "the end".

09-21-2007, 01:25 AM
I finished an article I started yesterday. And submitted it.

09-21-2007, 08:43 PM
Finished the 2nd draft of my 2nd book. Yay, me! If only I didn't feel so outsmarted by my own plot...

09-22-2007, 12:37 AM
No words now since last sat. Just got two chapters to finish before the end of my first draft. Prob nail it on sunday night

Claudia Gray
09-22-2007, 07:01 AM
I've been tinkering with the outline for my thriller WIP, Delilah. I hope to have a finalized outline by tomorrow evening at latest and to start work immediately thereafter. My goal after that is to have at least five polished chapters to show my agent at the top of November.

09-23-2007, 03:29 AM
2300 words so far. Still going strong... that is, until my husband gets home and we have to go out. /sigh

09-23-2007, 07:34 AM
I'm writing summaries of the novel I'm planning to try to get a better idea of what it's about...only I keep coming up with weird crap like, "When Alex’s school friend Darnell appears bearing sandwiches from the depths of the basement, Alex fears he is losing his mind." I was not aware that this happens.

09-24-2007, 03:50 AM
About 3k words. :)

09-25-2007, 08:46 AM
One page, about 500 words. That's about all I'm good for on a weeknight.

09-25-2007, 04:06 PM
I wrote over 2k last night in 2 hours. I love how my novel is going. I am so glad I trashed the first version. Whenever I read part of the first draft, I cringe.

09-27-2007, 04:11 PM
2300 words. Hellz yes.

09-27-2007, 07:37 PM
500 more for TDS so far today. It's a bit easier now that I switched to third person limited for my POV - first just wasn't working out. In fact, I'd only started in first because I'd thought it would be a short story.

Other than work stuff, zip since Tuesday. I have a nasty cold, and after work I pretty much just have to come home and curl up in bed. :(

Maybe I can lay some words down this weekend --

09-27-2007, 09:54 PM
A mod made me feel guilty about procrastination (she didn't mean to, but . . .) so yesterday I plugged out 1k, today so far 400, with a goal of 1.5k by 3:30.

09-28-2007, 05:43 PM
2 pages in the typewriter, which amounts to around 800-900 words (don't take my word on it, though, just a rough estimation). But it's barely 8.45 am. Ah, but it's Friday. Yeah, that's all that's going to get written today :D

10-01-2007, 06:12 PM
Hmmm, seems I'm not the only one who did 0 writing over the weekend :D

Today I've written 2 pages. Am hoping for at least 6 pages by the end of the day, that depends on the amount of homework I have.

10-01-2007, 07:56 PM
I am working on retyping some old short stories so I can send them out for publication. Kind of hard to do with a seven month old puppy whimpering in your ear constantly, though.

10-02-2007, 04:13 AM
A new title for my middle grade manuscript.

10-02-2007, 04:18 AM
I ended up with 560 words for my short story. Would have been more, but trying to think like a young kid sort of forces you to slow down a bit.

10-02-2007, 05:21 AM
Four 400 word articles for an online job. It's not much money but it keeps my hand in.

3000 word short story. I had an idea smack me in the forehead like a mack truck involving one character from each of my novels.

The Good: This could lead to another novel later on involving characters I already know well.

The Bad: I sat and wrote 3000 words easily but not on my WIP. I find that I have to stop somewhere between 1.5K and 2k on my WIP, but some random offshoot I can write until the cows come home...

Why is that? If I wrote on my WIP that way, I'd have finished the damn thing weeks ago...hell, I could write all day. I don't know, maybe 50k into a WIP and the passion is lacking and I'm just "FINISH IT".

Mystery of life? I don't know, but it sure seems unfair.

I'm polishing my fantasy romance ...

10-02-2007, 10:00 PM
two pages of summary for my main WIP, which I'll add to later today.

10-03-2007, 01:25 AM
Yesterday, I wrote a strange short story and tided it up tonight before (shameless plug alert) posting it in SYW.

10-03-2007, 02:14 AM
275 words thus far. Curse my whimpering pup!

10-03-2007, 03:33 AM
2,000-word essay. I'm so proud of myself. (And I just rediscovered this thread, so I'm even prouder.)

10-03-2007, 05:35 AM
I wrote 2 more pages. Didn't write anything more yesterday.

10-03-2007, 06:16 PM
Up early with the birds, one page for non-fiction WIP #1, four pages for fiction WIP #2. I must strike while the proverbial brain-iron is hot, which it most certainly is not always.

Plus I have plumberguys-who-need-suspenders invading to work on my bathroom, so the next thing I write today may very well be some sort of poetic ode to low-slung dungarees.

I think I wrote about 3,000 words on my fourth (and final in the series) YA fantasy novel. Augh! I need to finish the thing this month !!!!!

The other three are available for pre-order at www.barnesandnoble.com ... and the first one is ranking rather nicely considering it isn't due out for at least another month.

10-04-2007, 10:03 PM
Nothing in the realm of actual story, but I've been doing a little bit of worldbuilding. I think I may just do that for the rest of the month and then use NaNo to do exactly what I said I wouldn't do - rewrite The Dragon Stone. Too much of what I have now is vague and sketchy, making it difficult to progress in the plot.

At the very least, I need a rough sketch from where I am now to where I want to be by the end of the story.

10-04-2007, 10:56 PM
What's word building?

10-04-2007, 11:16 PM
I just started my ninth book, I surely hope I can finish it this year. :D

10-04-2007, 11:41 PM
The end of "Devon's Wish."

10-05-2007, 01:48 AM
What's word building?
WorLd building...

I've done almost 800 words in Chapter 40. And the day's not over. :)

For me, that's a good day.

10-05-2007, 02:38 PM
The beginning of a scene that wasn't. supposed. to be there.

But I also found a way to make it fit. I always do - and slowly but surely, work on my WIP is turning into a puzzle. Every day I'm happy I emerged alive from it...once more.

10-05-2007, 05:16 PM
1,700 words of a YA novel.

10-05-2007, 05:24 PM
i wrote a scene about christmas to insert into my manuscript. about 800 words. maybe it's a couple of scenes. (-;

10-07-2007, 05:13 AM
I wrote almost 2500 words on my WIP today, which is a darned good day for me.

10-08-2007, 07:57 PM
Thus far according to Microsoft Works Word processor, I have typed 218 worlds. I'm not finished yet. Also, anyone using this program knows how crappy it is. It counts out words key by key, rather than word by word. I'll give a real total later when I have my real program back.

10-28-2007, 11:27 PM
I have not written anything for about a month and a half now. Back at uni and my personal writing has taken a back seat. Finished my first draft though. Should start formulating some new ideas I suppose...

10-28-2007, 11:45 PM
Nothing. I take my weekends off.

11-13-2007, 03:46 AM
6,158 words according to MSWord and the day's not done.

11-13-2007, 03:55 AM
1,009 words extra of NaNo. :)

11-13-2007, 03:56 AM
6,158 words!!! Do you stop to breathe?!

My contribution today is several whiny emails to a friend about how I'm not writing anything. Helpful.

11-13-2007, 03:58 AM
Did the second draft of a 4,000 word story and sent it out.

Plus, got an extra-good interview and wrote up my notes for it, for my history book.

A good day.

A good day for me, it is mid morning and I have a great idea for something that ties in very neatly to something else I have been thinking about.

11-14-2007, 03:35 AM
Bugger all. Depressing isn't it? Actually it's not true. I did write a bit. But it still amounts to bugger all.

11-14-2007, 03:50 AM
Over 1,500 words of NaNo. :)

11-14-2007, 03:58 AM
Virtually nothing. I paused to read a great book on memoir writing, so I could continue writing it with some idea of where I was going with it.

I also came up with a great title for another book idea. And it hasn't been used yet--checked it out on Amazon and Christianbook.com. :)

Two poems and one boring, single line of prose:

'She hadn't slept all night.'

while TRYING to edit. I kept getting distracted.

Considering, my lifetime poem count is about 15-20,
that's surprising for me.

It's certainly a nice break than 10k words a day of my Nano,
though I did love doing it. I must have been mad.

11-14-2007, 05:47 AM
I wrote query letters. Lots and lots of query letters.

Revised, edited a bit, added a bit. Boxcar hopping is becoming central to plot, so I'm awaiting my rental of Emperor of the North from Blockbuster online.

That and on my finished book the exclusive til the 15th for one agent is about to run out so it's time to warm up the query gears again and shelve the ol WIP for a few weeks.

11-14-2007, 02:40 PM
I wrote (and submitted) a flash challenge entry.

Sonuds pretty good, doesn't it? shame it was only 272 words. Still, at least I'm writing :)

11-14-2007, 02:45 PM
4k on my NaNo novel. Yea me! :)

11-14-2007, 04:08 PM

1400 words after work. The finish line is in sight.

11-14-2007, 04:22 PM
As soon as I woke up this morning, I wrote in a notebook. Several hundred words for my Dubious Pickles piece. I have him deciding whether he should put storm windows on the house or continue with the shelter below the basement. That is coming along nicely...but he's beginning to wonder if he really needs it. (The space between the walls seems to be working as a wonderful shelter.)

I re-wrote a couple hundred new words in my NaNo this morning...

Lol, not even edits? I couldn't help myself. I figure I won't be around much in December, might as well do it as I go along. Just adding a few paragraphs here and there, and taking out a few words that don't make sense. It's not like I'm completetly re-writing it. :tongue No one's going to notice much.

Just adding a few paragraphs here and there, and taking out a few words that don't make sense. It's not like I'm completetly re-writing it. :tongue No one's going to notice much.

That is what they call a nano excuse. I suppose we can allow it...but...

That is what they call a nano excuse. I suppose we can allow it...but...

But? Is that one of the NaNo rules, not to re-write or edit? I was curious, and printed out what I had written so far, and I did not find any errors in my last chapter, which brings me up to date on the whole thing. :D I think it's noticeable that I'm getting into the story more. However chapter one just needs a few more notches here and there, to bring it up to standard and follow through with ease, just like chapter two.

11-14-2007, 04:59 PM
lol. I'm just playing with you...but they DO say to do that. Editing is the evil that stops us from pushing on. But the thing about Nano is there are no rules. Just write.

I've been doing so, and thanks. :D

6,000 readable words this morning (working from notes) for non-fic WIP.

I've been working pretty much full-time on this for a year, hence bouncy guy.
In the last third of it now, it feels like a real live MS.

I should add, this is not bragadaccio. It's, wow, this is finally moving toward being something I can send out in its full form.

Lunch and a nap are next. :)

I wrote two and a half crits.

*Shrug* better than nothing, right?

Three pages on my new WIP, bringing my first draft total to 23 pages (5,750 words).

I'm calling this work Tannin, presently. But as the story develops I probably will change it.

Finally, I'm not sure if this work will be a short story or a novel, but I do know that I could stop the story, if needed, probably with my next chapter if I do end up wanting only a short.

11-16-2007, 08:41 AM
Been rewriting an epic fantasy/horror.

11-16-2007, 08:49 AM
Ugh. Not a good writing day. Sat down to work on it, and ended up procrastinating and avoiding speaking with the muse via writing websites. Other than this site, I didn't find anything too intriguing or new.

I have 251 words and a blinking cursor. I should finish up this scene at least

11-16-2007, 08:51 AM
I took a day off writing today. Now I'm bursting with all this creative writing urge and I have to do a stupid essay about why Elvis Presley's death and the OJ Simpson murders are historical happenings that had an effect on the whole world. Well, not exactly but it involves explaining that. Meh.

I actually wrote two pages today, of a five-page finished chapter. The other three pages were already written, and make up the end of the story. I've decided Tannin will do best as a short, because if I continue writing in novel fashion, I imagine myself becoming discouraged before long with it.

So the finished manuscript (first draft) is 7,000 words long, or 28 pages.

Didn't write a darned thing. Spent most of the day in the library doing research using the NY Times on microfilm from 1924. Libraries are wonderful.

3,580 words and four chapters on my NaNoWriMo novel, The Dragon Princess, starting late last night.

I've noticed the deadline and the target word count actually gives me an incentive to write that I never had before. It's pretty darned cool. I feel like I really have a goal to work toward, and the story looks like it might be worth doing further drafts on and eventually submitting, if everything continues the way it is now.

11-18-2007, 04:09 AM
I wrote a couple thousand words; filled a scene gap. Easy.

Tomorrow, I have to write the final battle scene.

Oh God, no.

11-19-2007, 05:06 AM
I wrote the outline for the last third of my WIP. Good thing I did; I found a major plot hole. It's fixed, I think, and I can now stop wondering what happpens next and get to the writing.

Four chapters on my NaNo novel, since the last time I posted on this thread. I just finished Chapter 8 a few minutes ago.

11-19-2007, 05:29 AM
Not at all what I planned =x

I got distracted.
I did a few thousands words of 'winging' something entirely new,
plus one poem. Oh well.

11-19-2007, 06:03 AM
800 words within an hour. I listened to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra playing Christmas Cannon Rock and Remember. That got me working on an essay I've been tossing around in my brain for awhile. I did a complete first draft in 50 minutes. Now I'm letting it rest and will revisit it in a few days, so I can hang around AW a little longer.:D

11-20-2007, 01:31 AM
I love the song Remember by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

I wrote 191 today so far. Not sure if I'm going to get to write tonight or not, depends if MG (my girl) gets online since we didn't get a chance to talk at all this weekend. She's a welcomed distraction, let's just say.

I managed to outline all of part one, and detailed outline Ch 1, 2, 3 of the revised opening. So really, writing those chapters won't be that difficult. It'll be filling in the blanks. With any luck. If the characters want to come out of the shadows in my head and play nicely and that is always a crapshoot. I was happy with the progress though...I feel like I accomplished something writing-wise today rather than putzing around.

Oh and i wrote the first half of a short story too. Hm. Perhaps I'll play with that until dinner time...

Only 932 words today, so far. That makes 11 chapters completed on my NaNo novel. One chapter today.

I'm finding this part of the novel difficult to work on, partially because I have so full a day today, and partially because, though I know where the story is going, it's taken sort of a side-trip. I'm not fond of side-trips, but if that's where the characters are leading me, that's where I'm going to go.

Double-post, I know, but...

I just finished Chapter 13 of my NaNo novel, which makes for three chapters I've finished today. Exactly how many words I have with these three chapters, I couldn't say. But I feel better knowing I've accomplished more than the original 932 words I posted about above.

BTW, it's interesting to note that in Chapter 13, my characters did something I did not expect at all, and then after they got into their next jam -- which will be dealt with in the next chapter or two -- an explanation of what chased them off just appeared before me. I did not plan this, nor did I have any idea this was going to happen. It just did, kind of like how things happen in real life. It's kinda cool, if you think about it.

I hope you all have a good night tonight, and a wonderful Tuesday tomorrow.

Hi again everyone!

Since my last post, I've written chapters 14 through 18 of my NaNo project. I've reached more than 17,000 words, although at the time of this posting the widget in my sig line might not have registered it yet. The NaNoWriMo site is probably inundated with users right now, so it would definitely be working slowly.

But that's five chapters, and roughly three or four thousand words done today.

And now, I'm off to turn this old Compaq off and see about getting my duff into a real chair. This stool is killing my rear end.

Have a good night, everyone. :)

Today I wrote three chapters, 19 through 21. I believe I wrote just a little over 4,000 words, though I'm not sure exactly what my word count is.

Please don't tell me I'm going to have to write a FIFTH POST IN A ROW. Four is bad enough.

11-22-2007, 12:54 PM
I wrote 3,500 words on my NaNo novel. But I'm still behind. It's crunch time and I'd better get my ass in gear if I'm going to finish my 50k! :)

12-18-2007, 12:29 AM
A 525 word scene that popped into my head a few days ago. I really like the way it came out, much different from my usual steaming pile of a first draft. Too bad it's just going to be used for a role play, I've a mind to take it further. Perhaps another time.

Bumping the thread, and reporting on my goodly amount of writing today.

I've written 3,041 words today on a brand-new short story I'm calling 'Wyvern Knight'. I'm not finished with it yet, but it sure is nice to have new ideas coming to mind every little while. I'm actually enjoying writing again.

02-14-2008, 03:29 AM
Today I've written a 1248-word short story, two poems, and 470 words on another short story. I still have to write a novel chapter, which will be about 1150 words if it's the average length.

Sean D. Schaffer
02-14-2008, 04:57 AM
Not much so far today. A chapter on my novel WIP, roughly 1,420 words in length. There might be more to come tonight, as the night's still young yet. I'm hoping to get another chapter, and possibly a 2nd draft on Wyvern Knight, finished or at least substantially worked on before I go to bed tonight.

And I'm also hoping to work on a religious article/essay starting tonight. All in all, I have a full roster ahead.

It's good to see other people posting. Well done, all.

02-14-2008, 04:58 AM
The beginning of what looks to be a new story. A gore new story, if that exists. It's not horror, but definetly gore. If you want to be disgusted, than this is definetly the story for you. I wonder if these sell.

"Staring at your ceiling for long periods of time isn’t exactly what one’d consider entertaining, but when you’re sick in bed there’s not really much else to do."

First line of a new story I thought of that's going quite badly...

Well, I finished my article's first draft. It's 1,589 words long, and was a complete joy to write. Even though it is non-fiction (has to do with my own life) it was very fun to put together. Now comes the editing process, and also I still have to see about that chapter and short story that I mentioned earlier tonight.

Productive night, in any case.

02-14-2008, 07:04 AM
I haven't been really writing, I've been editing WIP1. I'll edit for another hour and then I'll start writing some more on WIP2. Or something.

Sean D. Schaffer

Two chapters of my novel, and two drafts of my religious experiences article/essay.

I've probably put some 4,000 or 4,500 words to the hard drive today.

02-15-2008, 07:30 AM
I wrote around 5 pages of my screenplay. I wrote a whole scene in a coffee shop in less than an hour. I seem to do my best work there lol

Sean D. Schaffer
02-16-2008, 12:28 PM
Today -- er, yesterday, I should say -- I wrote the final version of my religious testimonial essay. It sits at 1,624 words and I'm looking to submit it. I just sent a query out a few minutes ago, and I am on pins and needles over one simple email query.

Also, I wrote two chapters on my novel WIP. Further, I wrote a first draft for a new religious article, and started a new idea for a spec-fic short.

All in all, I probably wrote a little more than 4,000 words -- using the 250 method, that is. I'm not sure of an exact count, especially since I wrote the second religious article's first draft on the Olympia.

But that's basically what I've written today. I hope you all have a good weekend, and I look forward to writing to you all again soon.

Nothing, but I did cull some 10,000 to 15,000 words from my WIP, in the form of some five or six original chapters. Other work today basically exhausted me, so I don't think I'll be writing tonight ... though I've been known to change my mind after posting something like this, in the past. :)

Today I re-wrote three original chapters of my novel WIP, and culled two other chapters. I'm on the last stretch with this novel, right around the last hundred pages. :)

I haven't touched my articles in the last several days, but I did write the beginning of a possible short story last night. It's roughly 750 words so far, and although I can't seem to go anywhere with it, I think that's partially because I was so tired last night.

And this post has reminded me that I need to get on the ball with that article I started the other day. I finished Draft Two, and now I need to write Draft Three and get into the references I've decided to use.

Today, I finished Wurvia, my novel WIP. All I have to do now is edit the manuscript.

My only gripe about the whole thing, is the work is under 60,000 words using the 250 method. Using the word counting function on my computer, it's under 50,000. Although the writing is a lot tighter, and the storytelling is better, I am pretty sure there aren't very many big houses that will accept so small a work from an unknown. I'm thinking I'll have to go with a small press with it.

I'll be editing for the next several days, and I should be finished with the project altogether (and for once, pleased with it) by the end of this weekend.

You regular critters (I'm getting a visual from this that I didn't intend) out there are special. I'm not cut out for this. Now I'm going to write some really bad poetry about how much I suck. :) I'm good at writing bad poetry.

I wrote a new short story today. It concerns characters from my recently finished novel manuscript, Wurvia, and clocks in at right around 1,750 words. I have not given it a title yet, but I'm pleased with the story. I look forward to doing a second draft on it soon.

03-02-2008, 01:14 AM
I've written about 300 words. Seeing as though I've written nothing in about 2 weeks, this is a mayor accomplishment.

Now I'm off to design some CD covers for my homework. Because, you know, I got into a Literature Carreer so I could learn how to design CD covers.

03-03-2008, 01:00 PM
Today I have been doing mostly some research and reading stuff but I wrote some posts on skype forum

03-03-2008, 01:23 PM
Today I wrote the first 1000 words of my first novel. A long way to go but every story starts somewhere. If my short story writing experience is anything to go by I will likely speed up over time and my 1000 words/day will become 2000. This evening I will be getting to work on the second draft of a short story.

I did roughly 2,500 words. :)

03-03-2008, 08:23 PM
A lot of revisions on a 40,000 word manuscript for middle grade readers. That's what happens when you don't have much Internet service for three days. :)
I'm putting it aside for a week, then will reread the entire thing out loud and see if it's polished enough.

03-03-2008, 09:57 PM
today I have written down about 5 lines. They are random, don't have anything to do with anything, and I'm not even sure if they can be connected. But as the stuff in my head wiggles around today, there's all kinds of stuff trying to get out. I'm just taking the easy picks and writing them down. Eventually one will rise to the top for me to pick that will be the thing that holds them all together.

(this always happens when I start new stories.)

Sean D. Schaffer

Chapter Two, 3,500 words using the 250 method. Using the computer word-counting feature, it came in at just a little below 3,000 words.

Tonight, I'm thinking seriously about writing Chapter Three. I have never been this confident about any manuscript I have ever written. I never thought I would be re-writing this piece this one last time. I'm loving this.

03-04-2008, 09:41 AM
What's the 250 method?

Still plugging away at chapter 9 of my WIP. :)

03-04-2008, 01:07 PM
Not as much as I would have liked this morning, just 800 words of my MS.

03-04-2008, 06:39 PM
Last night I only got in 500 words, but I also did some revising on other chapters, does that count? :P

03-04-2008, 06:40 PM
Oh and the 250 method is doing a word count without using MS Word to do it (average 250 words a page).

At least last I checked that's what it was, I'm pretty sure.

Sean D. Schaffer
03-04-2008, 06:40 PM
What's the 250 method?

Still plugging away at chapter 9 of my WIP. :)

The 250 method is an old word-counting method, which gives an approximate word count for manuscripts. Without going into deep detail, it's where you take 250 words per page, using the proper format, and multiply that by the number of pages.

Therefore, according to the 250 method, a 10 page document would be 2,500 words long.

Speaking of word counts, I have another one for you all. Last night I started work on Chapter Three, and wrote 2,500 words. I still have about half the chapter to go, but what I'm liking about my writing this time around is that I'm actually confident in it. My writing is relaxed, and at the same time, beginning to read elegantly. I'm enjoying this project very much, and I am now convinced of the need to finish it.

Did better today and got 1,000 words down. The worst part is that I could keep going but I have to stop and go to work! Oh well, the weekend is almost here.

03-05-2008, 09:06 PM
I didn't write it today; I wrote it earlier this week and and am revising now.

I added a sex scene to my story, one in which a female ghost has sex with the MC, more or less against his will (his muscles are frozen). There are reasons why it happens, plus MC is affected by it with guilt and confusion, and the scene also plays into the coming climax of the book.

I'll be posting it in the Erotica SYW for feedback. (Is it too erotic for mainstream fiction? is one question I'll have to ask.)

Chapter 4, 2,500 words.

A little bit less than I have been doing, but the chapter's second part seemed too much. I might be able, however, to work it into a later part of the book.

Oh, and I came up with a good working title for my novel re-write: The Golden Wyverns of Baria

I have not been this confident in my writing since I was in High School.

Got 2000 words last night but so far today I'm only up to 1150 and it doesn't look as if I'll be able to knock out much more. I'm just maneuvering characters at the moment and that's a boring slog. Gah.

03-06-2008, 03:54 PM
Another 1000 words. Feels like slow progress but I'm breaking a new sub-plot so hopefully it will speed up once I get into the main plot that I have mostly planned.

03-06-2008, 04:24 PM
I added about 900 words to my rewrite this morning.

03-06-2008, 09:12 PM
I finished an entry on the corporate blog I run. I looked at it and said: "This is crap!" :(

Chapter 5 finished, 2,250 words.

03-07-2008, 09:12 AM
I didn't write, but I did an interview and research for an article I was assigned.

03-07-2008, 11:12 AM
Over 2000 words and I hit the 30,000 mark. Which makes me very happy :)

03-07-2008, 11:49 AM
1000 again, looking forward to the weekend tomorrow so I can really get into it.

03-07-2008, 03:37 PM
I only got about 1000 words today, but hopefully tomorrow I will make up for it. I have been on a roll for the last week so today was my slow day. :)

03-08-2008, 01:20 PM
OK today totally made up for yesterday! I wrote a little over 3000 words today!! My butt is numb and my eyeballs are about to turn to dust but it was so worth it.

I also edited 3 chapters of my rough draft today and made many many notes about rewrites and revisions. I had such a productive day... Yay for snowstorms! ;)

03-08-2008, 04:40 PM
Finished the WIP yesterday. Woo-hoo!

Looks like everyone's kicking butt here.

Yesterday I wrote Chapters 6 and 7 of my re-write. Roughly 6,000 words altogether. :)

03-08-2008, 09:24 PM
2000 words although it took me about 4 hours with all the disruptions. I will start chapter three tomorrow.

03-08-2008, 10:31 PM
So far, a drabble for March FADness, but the ghosts of unfinished short stories are lined up staring at me accusingly. Time to work on at least one of them, but which one? None are threatening me with violence yet, but a couple are looking a little mean, like the old and slightly crochety sometimes get :)

So far, about 1000 words of Chapter 22 of Hourglass.

Finished Chapter 8, about 1,500 words. A short one, I know, but I had to cut part of it out. The first half, I think, of the original chapter just did not work.

Could be worse, I suppose. Could've gotten nothing done.

03-09-2008, 05:02 AM
I just wrote a really powerful scene where my two protagonists clash.

I have one more scene to go to finish Chapter 21 and the third quarter of the novel.

Just finished Chapter 9, am almost half-way through the manuscript.

So two chapters today, at a total of roughly 4,250 words. Not as much as past days, but still a decent piece of work considering what all had to be changed story- and writing-wise.

In Chapter 10, a world empire tries to invade. This is one part of the book I definitely am looking forward to re-writing. :)

03-09-2008, 09:32 AM
I wrote, edited, and revised "Shellfish Shrimp" and wrote six pages for a novel I'm working on. I also worked on the outline for that same novel, getting out about three pages, along with a digression, before I quit.

I also did my job up at YA, if that counts.

03-09-2008, 10:33 AM
I revised the first three pages of my novel in progress. These first pages are really bothering me; I want them to be perfect! But my inner editor is going wild and I've revised and revised and now I'm unsure as to whether or not I like the changes from the original. Maybe I should skip ahead and work my way back.

03-09-2008, 12:26 PM
I wrote 3430 words today!!!

My co-author and I finished our first draft tonight!!! I am so excited! It is the first novel that I have ever actually finished. I know it needs a ton of work and a thousand rewrites....but the first draft is done!!

I worked on the rewriting of my mystery novel; expanded a scene Ive been wrestling with for a while by some 800 words.

03-10-2008, 01:11 PM
Today I wrote another 1000 words but a lot quicker than usual. I probably could have hit my 1500 word target if I hadn't had to leave early for a meeting. Hopefully tomorrow I will finally be up to speed. Unfortunately I only managed 500 words on Sunday but that will teach me to go out drinking until 4 am!!

03-11-2008, 02:01 AM
I wrote the outline for my WIP. I'm 3,500 words into it and didn't have a clue where it was going, but today the whole thing unfolded in my mind like a flower in bloom.

I'm excited! I keep going over my notes and get a little heart flutter every time. Now I just have to be patient and keep the pace under control. :whip:

03-11-2008, 02:49 AM
Today was amazing! Even with people going in and out of this room and the phone ringing, I was able to totally rewrite an early reader chapter book to my liking. I dreamt of it last night and this morning was able to rewrite the book which come in right now at over 3,000 words.

I'm finding more and more that I'm the type that needs a lot of activity going on around me to concentrate on my writing. Go figure.

03-11-2008, 03:38 AM
Today I wrote just a short add for my friend about his website.

03-11-2008, 04:51 AM
It seems I'm indirectly working on my novel. I guess I've been away from it for a bit too long. I did a FAD prompt, which ended up being a scene for said novel. Then I decided to try one of the SFF challenges, which also turned into a scene from a novel, only it may be the sequel to the first one, which isn't actually written yet. Talk about bewildering.

All in all, the total comes to about 1,000 words of rough.

Nothing but a bunch of signatures so far today. I'm preparing for a possible move.

Perhaps around 10:00 PM or so, if I come back to the boards at that time, I might have some progress to report. :)

03-11-2008, 01:32 PM
Completed the third chapter today. Things are starting to move along. Would still love more free time to work on it though.

Finsihed the first round of snipping, but still only half way to reducing the word count to something acceptable. Sigh. At least I've identified a few scenes that can merge together, and some saggy bits that need re-writing.

I didn't report at 10 last night like I had originally hoped, but I did finish the chapter. Chapter 11, at 1,500 words, is the shortest so far in my manuscript because I had to take out half the original part.

The writing is coming along slowly, because of personal issues that are almost overwhelming. But thankfully, I've been able to keep to my quota. In fact, if my calculations are correct and I continue with my one chapter a day, I will be finishing the day BEFORE my deadline. :)

03-12-2008, 02:15 AM
No actual story today, mostly background work. The introduction of Lysias to the story has changed quite a bit of the beginning, so I'm going to rework it all. I plan on going slowly, fleshing things out as I go. The last two scenes I wrote included some very important revelations about the characters themselves, giving me a much clearer perspective of them and how their stories all connect.

Early this morning I finished Chapter 12. I have become depressed about my progress, and I think part of the reason -- aside from the dread 'mid-book blues' -- is that for a couple days I was writing two chapters a day. Although I have a quota of only one a day, and should be happy I'm actually ahead of schedule, I'm not. My thought is that I have become depressed by a perceived lag in my progress every day, because I've since dropped back to the minimum quota.

Perhaps if I stop writing beyond my intended quota, I won't be so depressed?

In any case, I'm past the manuscript's half-way mark now. At least I can revel in that accomplishment today. :)

03-12-2008, 01:30 PM
I broke the 10k mark today so all looking good.

03-13-2008, 07:19 PM
Well if no-one else is playing I guess I’ll go again. Today I wrote another 1,000 words. I’m starting to really ‘get’ the story and the characters now and that’s a great feeling. For the first time since starting I’m thinking of going home tonight and writing some more, just so I can hang out with the characters again. Great day.

03-14-2008, 03:15 AM
I have been procrastinating today. First day of spring break. Yay! That would be an distant ancestor to a dimwitted excuse if I hadn't been procrastinating all of third quarter... sigh...

I wrote some AW posts and typed in a few web addresses. Does that count?

03-14-2008, 03:19 AM
Produced about ten pages of crap today, about the same as yesterday. But once I get revising, I'm sure something useful will emerge.

No writing today ... yet. I plan on starting work again on Chapter 13, later tonight. It's been a couple days since I wrote Chapter 12, but that's because I hit a snag in the plot line. I had forgotten to introduce one character early on, and it turns out he comes back to haunt one of the main protagonists right around Chapter 14. So I've been scrambling to come up with a way to introduce him in this part of the book. So, I have some work to do tonight.

But I will say I'm right on with my schedule. I was actually ahead of schedule when I hit this bump in the road, so I have no need to work any double-time at this particular moment.

03-14-2008, 07:53 AM
I wrote chapter one of my novel's rewrite. ^^

03-14-2008, 11:29 AM
Another thousand words and the fourth chapter is now completed.

03-22-2008, 10:58 AM
This thread shall not die!

I wrote a bit over my 2000 words today and I feel good about what I wrote. Except for the fact that my characters are veering into angst territory. So it's time to throw in some action and give them some time to resolve said angst :)

03-22-2008, 11:12 AM
I'm not sure what I wrote today since I've long since abandoned taking daily counts. It becomes obsessive and counterproductive (for me, at least).

I do check my word count every so often, and I'm at 141K words as of today.

Today? Yesterday? Day before yesterday? NOTHING! Tried some revision and editing the other night, Nada! I'm suffering from some serious block. Help! Medicine! Hot Compresses! Whatever!

I'm finally (FINALLY!) getting back to work on book 3 after a long 6-month writing break (new baby). Feels great.

I did a little tune up on a script this morning. I'd just like to note however, that this is a script I started MORE THAN A DECADE ago. I kept picking it up, and putting it down. I wrote other scripts, articles and stories, but kept thinking about this one.

Back in August, I promised myself I'd finish it before the end of the year.

I finished the first draft on Dec 31, 2007. I'm on the third draft now, and it's about ready to go out to some folks.

Jes sayin... sometimes a story has its own gestation period.
