I wrote, today, Chapter 26 of my novel WIP, and I'm thinking I might do Chapter 27 as well. Chapter 26 reached 7 pages length, making it 1,750 words. My total word count at this point in time is 69,750 using the 250 method.

---

Congratulations to Jack Nog, for getting to "The End". That is awesome news.

I've just finished the first draft of my WIP. It's underdeveloped, far too short to be considered a novel, loses its way after the first 15,000 words and doesn't realyl do what I hoped for.

But hey, at least the first draft is done.

I wrote about 5000 words today and surprisingly the two words I least expected...

The End.

Ooo... Congrats!

I never even typed "the end" on my last one. I should go back and do that, just for the sense of accomplishment! And I'll put it in a really pretty font, so I can probably fiddle with that for a good half hour or so...

Oh? My WIP? Yeah, four hundred words today so far.

I'm about 1/3 of the way through revising, and I decided to take a break and add an epilogue on to the end. It's not a necessary read, but it adds more closure to the book and makes it more standalone. I'm hoping this will make it more marketable.

Ho hum. Almost done. Then back to revisions.

I did about 5 pages on Chapter 27 tonight. I still have 6 pages of the First Draft's version of Chapter 27 to go, but I'll probably do that tomorrow.

So basically I have another 1,250 words added to the novel tonight.

I just finished Chapter 27 this morning. The chapter itself was ten pages and therefore 2,500 words long. This brings the total word count to 72,250, or 289 pages.

I haven't done any short story writing in the last several days, but I'm getting back into the groove and I might be starting a new story today, if I can.

I also added an article to my blog, which is more than 1,000 words according to my word processor ... although the exact count I do not recall right off the top of my head.

Yesterday, I wrote synopses of the final chapters in my novel. I did these longhand on unlined paper, but I suspect they totaled out to about 1000 words. I was flailing around a lot in the actual manuscript and realized I needed some structure before writing the climax and ending. Almost there!

Took a break from noveling last night and wrote a long entry for my Livejournal. I hadn't updated in almost 2 weeks! When I do update there, I tend to get long-winded. I'll probably write another entry today.

I haven't written anything for a long time except my stupid shot list! I will have to draw the story boards soon, too. As much as I normally hate writing prose, this is much worse. It's tedious, but I know it will help me later when I'm directing.

I wrote an article that I'm going to put up for critique, hopefully turn it a real article. It's on the drive many people have to be famous. Ricky Gervais (from The Office) had a great quote on NPR today, about how people want to be famous, but they have nothing to be famous for, but a desire to be to be looked at.

I wrote a long blog entry about spontaneously moving to Arizona, which will be on the blog tonight or tomorrow. A shorter one about how I'm quitting my job in 34 days to go to grad school full time. And technically at midnight, I added the new version of White House Fan Fiction, part one, on my blog (http://elisabethwrites.blogspot.com). It's going to be a big nerdy blogging weekend.

WIP? 100 words. :Headbang: Total 1,000 Woo!

I wrote an article for my blog, about editing and what I think I might be doing wrong where that subject is concerned. The article is 821 words long.

Other than that, I haven't really had time to write today. I had a doctor's appointment and then a very long ride home (traffic was pretty bad and a bus was fairly late).

However, the article has inspired me and I'm going to try editing Chapter 28 in a bit of a different manner tonight ... by not using the editing pencil.

I'll see how it turns out. I hope you all have a good weekend.

I'm in the process of working on Chapter 28, and I must say this new method (which actually is an old method for me) of editing really is going to town. I mean, the writing quality of Draft 2 is far superior to Draft 1 and all I've done is re-write it without using the red pencil.

I just got to Page 7 of the Second Draft's version of Chapter 28, and I'm still in the middle of Page 5 of the First Draft's version. So that's roughly 250 more words added to the word count that I would not have accomplished using the previous editing method.

I ought to use the writing methods I used as a teenager, more often!

Rewrote the introductory scene from the novel I'm currently trying to fence. Never been happy with it; I'll let this version ferment a while.

Also rough-drafted (verrrrrry rough) a difficult transition passage in my current in-progress thing, which has stymied me for some time. Trying to get from point G to point L, filling in the H, I, J, and K in some sensible manner. By doing so, I've discovered some logic discrepancies, but nothing that can't be solved, I don't think. I did this latter in pen on a yellow legal pad, so now it needs to get into the computer text. Maybe later tonight, otherwise, tomorrow.

Two pages tonight.

I made the mistake of reading my earlier draft of this WIP. The storyline was seriously flawed, which is why I'm doing the rewrite, but I was utterly flabbergasted to discover that my writing on the earlier draft was the best I've ever done. I actually enjoyed reading it, which is a bit sobering -- somewhere along the line I got worse, not better.

No, that's just silly. But I was feeling very passionate about my character in the earlier draft, and it really showed in the writing. The problem is that in my current version, this character is older and I haven't come to care about her so much as an adult. I was obviously enjoying seeing my world through a child's eyes. Perhaps I need to rethink her. She could still be a child, if I tweaked the timeline a little. And I suspect the story would start rolling along again at a good clip if I did that.

I finally figured out the beginning of a short story that I've been working on - the end came to me first, then the middle, but starting it has been a bear. At least five tries - none of which worked - so I put it away a week or so ago.

And then it came to me waiting in the self-service line at the grocery store.

Sometimes I love how my mind works.

I worked a bit on my ideas for my current WIP this morning, then tonight I came home from my husband's class reunion with the bare bones of an idea for a story (or book) -- inspiration had struck! I had left the reunion early to come home and put our infant son to bed, so as I waited for my husband to get back, I wrote out several hundred words on possible plot lines relating to my idea. Hopefully, this will be an idea that will go somewhere!

I've just sat down to write, so I'm at a lowly 200 words. I'm adding to an earlier chapter that was bothering me. My new rule is no editing of previously written scenes, but I'm allowing myself to add to them if doing so advances the story line.

Once this scene is finished, I'll be going back to the terra incognita where the last scene I've written leads off into the second half of the story.

Hi!
This may sound crazy, but the reality-tv is something I enjoy. And when I watch it, I watch carefully. Why? Because I am looking for something. I am looking for dialogue about the relationships between peoples. Wish I could explain better, but I can't. Anyway, I write the dialogue in Finnish, because it is easier. And I have done this today. But this habit has followed me quite some time already. Good or bad, I don't know, but I hope it develops my writing.

Yeah, I'm a fan of quitting for the day when I'm ahead. It makes you dive into the next day's writing more easily.

I started a new screenplay today, another horror, and sent an e-mail to a lawyer friend of mine, asking if he wanted to collaborate on a TV drama series. Lawyer friend replied with a Yes. Thrashing out the characters I want to use.

Jack Nog, you seem to be on fire recently!

Two reasons: One, I got to post a couple times in a row and nobody interrupted :)

Second, it's a new WIP. After finishing the last, I thought I was sick of writing. I intended to put that novel down and take a breather. I did some research on the current one a long while back and it just jumped at me. I truly was going to go with another idea, but decided to write this one. The goal as always is 2000 a day. I'm not sure exactly how many words -- I've revising the first part of Stargazer, which involved a fair amount of rewriting but more editing. This is not a full revision, but a straightening-out I felt like I needed to do in order to attack the final six chapters (still unwritten) in the right frame of mind. I got through 11 chapters this weekend and hope to six more during the next week or so; that will bring me up to the point of writing the big finale. May I may a suggestion, though? Don't use "netspeak" on a writing forum. That's akin to belching aloud at a formal dinner party. :D

I believe if I were to give a fairly accurate word count, it would probably be around 3,250. I should be giving my exact word count on my signature line in a few minutes.

However, as I was offline the last couple days, my word count for the whole weekend would be substantially higher. I did roughly 44 pages altogether in the last two days (revision work, not creative writing), making my word count roughly 11,000 for the weekend ... I think. I'll have to look up my actual page count on my word processor before I could give a completely accurate report.

The more I think about it, the more it looks like I'll be switching the chapters around within this Draft, so as to make the writing flow better and with more anticipation between chapters.

Today I added 1100 words to the first draft of my new novel length work. Sometimes it feels like it takes all day to get those few pages down!

Finished the fourth revision of my middle grade novel. Emailed it to the agent. Fingers crossed that he doesn't shred it to pieces! Or tell me to scrap it all together. Then I think I'll hide out in Susie's House of Peace, Calm, and Serenity, drinking. Nectar, that is. ;)

I only wrote about 300 words today, but it finished off a chapter I've been struggling with this week, so it made me happy.

I finished Chapter 6 of my Third Draft today. I wrote 3,250 words or 13 pages.

The manuscript now sits at 97 pages in length or 24,250 words. I'm thrilled to have another chapter under my belt.

I worked on Chapter 7 today. I'm about half-way through it, and it's presently 8 pages (2,000 words) long.

Judging from the rest of the chapter, it looks like it will be at least 16 pages in length when I finish it. The 2nd Draft version was 14 pages long, so that'll add two pages more to the total of the manuscript.

So far, so good. It looks like I might actually surpass the 90,000 word mark this time. If I do, that will be awesome! I look forward to it.

Hi all,

I just finished Chapter 7 of Jonathan Rahn. It is 16 pages in length (4,000 words) and brings the running total on the Third Draft to 28,250 words.

I'm pretty excited, but soon I'm going to have to crawl into bed, I think. It's almost 1:30 in the morning here, and I'm not usually up this late.

I'm not done yet for the day, but so far today I've written 2,000 words on Chapter 8. I still have another few pages and the finished product will probably be around 3,000 words or a little thereunder.

I'll be sure to put the overall word count for Chapters 1 through 8 up when I finish, probably later today. So far, it's looking good!

I finished my chapter today. It's 13 pages long, so it's 3,250 words. This brings the tally on my running total to 31,500 words. I am now officially a third of the way through my Third Draft.

The Third Draft at present is 13 pages longer than the Second Draft was where I left off today. That's 3,250 words longer than the Second Draft, and I needed 4,500 words total added to the work to make it to the 90,000 word mark. If I don't take too much away, it looks to me like I will definitely come out of this with 90,000 words or possibly even more in my finished product.

One of my three MC's goes to her brownstone for the first time on page 250 of a 580 page manuscript.

I described her pure white environment to help the reader believe she really is who she seems to be. Well, too much page.

I cut the heck out of it. I made it better.

Five pages so far and the afternon is only half over. And this is all new terrain, brand new scene, no editing, just moving forward. I've been playing it over and over in my head for a couple of weeks, and I'm ready to write it now. Whoopee! Also in the course of writing the first half of this chapter I discovered something about my main character that will make her great fun to write and may allow me to add some levity to what is otherwise a fairly sombre story.

13 pages on Chapter 9; I still have 4 pages to go before the night is over.

It looks as though the chapter will be roughly 4,000 words long, possibly a little longer.

And it will definitely make for at least 250 words added to the overall word count of Draft 3.

Also, although I haven't written it out yet, I did get the seed of a new story idea today. I like the premise and I think it will probably be my next WIP.

I'm pretty happy at the moment.

Final count seven pages, about 3,500 words. The best day I've had in a long time. I didn't finish the chapter -- heck, I didn't even get close -- because there was more to it than I thought. I can now spend my evening relaxing in bed with a book tonight and get to sleep early instead of lying awake with storylines bouncing around in my head.

I just finished the second draft of my WIP. And it's so much better than the first draft. :D

Sean D. Schaffer

I wrote four pages of Chapter 9, and finished it. The chapter is 17 pages long, and the running total on the WIP is 143 pages (35,750 words). At this point in the Second Draft, the work stood at 127 pages, so the Third Draft is presently 16 pages longer than the Second. I only have 500 words to add to the Third Draft before I can potentially say I will have reached the 90,000 word mark.

After this, though, I think I'll give the computer and the book a rest for the remainder of the day. I have lots of other things that need to be accomplished before the day is out, and it's almost noon. I'm going to have to get those things done today before I can continue writing. Not the least among these things, I have to make myself presentable to the rest of the world, so writing is pretty much out-of-the-question for the remainder of the day.

Still, 1,000 words is pretty good progress for one hour. So, I'm satisfied that I've done some good work today.

I've been writing 3-4 pages a night for the past week. I've hit my stride between 3AM and 6AM. I'm hoping to finish a pirate short story this week and get my preggers Queen story started before the long weekend arrives.

And I must say, I've skimmed the last couple pages of this thread and I'm very impressed and thrilled to see how many folks are constantly writing. I think Schaffer and aadams are machines! ^_^

Another 3K day! A couple of days ago I reached the point in the story where the main characters all go their own way, which has turned out to be a blessing. It really helps to stay with one character instead of getting stuck on the idea of chapters and going from one main character's viewpoint to another. I think I'll stay with this strategy, carrying one character until I don't know what comes next for them, then pick up the other main character for a while.

And I also reached the 70K mark today.
