Advice for person new to querying agents

I have a YA novel that, I think, may have a sort of "icky" description, though it's not an icky book by any means. I worry that when I boil it down to a short description, it loses the story's appeal and looks like a book about what some may think is an uncomfortable subject. Any advice about how to "spin" (for lack of a better word) the story so that it might not seem controversial or off-putting?
