Kansas! Again.
I looked on the back of a can of the generic soda my family buys.

I've been trying to lose weight for, uh, since puberty, without any success.

Now I see why.

The crap has 46 grams of sugar in it. Thats, uh, almost ten spoonfulls.

What the hell? 10 spoonfuls of sugar? I slam those things!

If I tried to just *eat* ten spoons of sugar, I'd throw up.

Is my conversion wrong? I mean--how is this even possible?

And what the hell is, uh, what, 60 spoons of sugar a day doing to do to someone's body? Why haven't I died in a diabetic coma!?

All the same, wow, yeah. Water and Tea for this novelist. x_x

If you've been wanting to lose weight, why were you drinking soda in the first place?

;)

I lived with a diabetic for several years and got used to drinking diet sodas. Now, live soda tastes like pancake syrup.

Os.

I was born in 85.

Ring.

Ring.

Bart?

Yes?

The previous century called. It left a message.

Okay?

A giant hand comes through the phone and punches in Bart's teeth.

Maybe I should drink that instead.

I think I'd feel silly with my head tilted back and the bottle tilted, waiting...

Regular soda has a ton of calories in it. Switch to diet or start drinking water.

err... Have you read anything about the effects of Aspartame (artificial sweetener used in most diet and no-sugar soft drinks)?

I'm not sure if it's true or not, but it doesn't sound good.

You might be better off with sugar. :e2smack:

Yes. My writing group makes me get the diet soda with other sweeteners - sperta or whatever - when I can.

The year 1998 called, it wonders when you're going to leave 1997 and come visit it.

Diet soda has less sugar, but it is actually worse for your body than regular sugar, and recent reports have shown that it can actually be more fattening. In addition to the nasty stuff that they put in there to sweeten it, it causes people to drink more, get hungrier (oh, yes) and eat more dessert as a reward for drinking "diet" at dinner or whatever.

Switch to juice, water, or tea... that's what I did.

Quoting, because this is worth repeating. MSN had an article recently about how diet sodas are more addictive than regular sodas. I can't seem to find the link, but everything WildScribe said was stated in that article as part of a study.

Are you drinking your 64 ounces of water day, Bart? Something that simple can help flush out your system, and shed a few pounds.

Diet soda is the work of the devil! Blah! Evil, evil crap....yarf.

Even juice can have as much sugar as some of the sodas out there : important safety tip - "juice drink" or fruit punchish type things imply fruit flavoring and loads of high fructose corn syrup rather than real and honest fruitsy squeezins.

The molecules in splenda are too big to be assimilated, so they pass right through. Aspartame is the horrible one...acesulfame is not that bad (so far ;) )

I managed to lose about 35 pounds in four months on the raisin bran diet - the cereal for breakfast and dinner with a sensible lunch in between.

It works...I swear!

See,t hat's why I don't drink soda that often. Not good stuff, not good at all. Stick to tea or coffee. Herbal teas are great, because some herbs offer natural sweetness and don't have to be loaded with sugar to taste good.

Now, as for the weight loss thing- I had the same problem. I couldn't lose weight if my life depended on it. But then, I started adding rice to every meal. Just havign a little rice helps a lot, it acts as a filler and you'll take in less calories. And start walking a lot. I refuse to drive, not only because I'm terrible at it, but also because walking is great for weight loss. Just a mile a day or so is good (a lot of people look at me weird whenever I say a mile a day. "A whole mile? Ah!" But it's really not that long)
