Does anyone have any good recommendations for books or other resources on 15th and 16th century ships? I'll need a few months to finish the current book, but for the next one, a lot of the book is going to take place at sea. It's a fantasy set in a roughly 15th/16th century world. The primary culture is pseudo-European (of course), but I'll also be bringing in a few other cultures to play.

Being completely ignorant of all things boat-related, I was hoping people might have some suggestions for where to start curing my ignorance :)

This is a good question for Macdonald. Maybe he'll drop by.

I'd start with the various expeditions in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Hakluyt's Voyages, for instance, has lots of good information. Look up the Mary Rose, an excavated Tudor ship.
