"Stranded" is sort of synonymous for "accidental". The question is more properly worded: If you had some advance notice that you were going to be put into isolated circumstances and could only bring one book with you-- for some strange reason-- which book would that be?

My answer is: I hope I never have to make that decision. If forced, I would likely choose to bring a blank notebook and some pencils. But once I ran out of pages to write on, that would be horrible.

book, as in singular? no way, couldn't do it.
Flying last week i bought two at a kiosk on my way to board-just in case-the three i already had with me would not do. I know my husband thought i was crazy too. If you counted the four YA in my briefcase that is nine.

A quick off topic note:

Is this thread a metaphor for tomorrow?;)

Okay, next poster: back on topic.

"Pride and Prejudice."

Can I be stranded with my dvd player and the A&E miniseries, too, so I can watch yummy Colin Firth while I'm on the island?

Offspring by Liam Jackson.

What? I haven't read it yet...

That's the next book on my list. So I'll make sure I pack it and we can read it together under a palm tree sipping some tropical punch in a pineapple with umbrellas and kewi, K?

I guess my family album. Or the Bible. This is too tough.

It would have to be the Bible although I'm not a believer. It is the root to understanding western culture and I need to read it a couple of more times.

Well, it probably offers the most in the way of thought provoking material.

Out hunting rogue apostrophes.
Stranded on an Island?

How about Lord of the Flies, The Beach, or The Island of Dr Moreau?

Actually, I'd probably bring something that I could read many times and it never gets old. Something like Gulliver's Travels, or The Count of Monte Cristo.

Do magazines count?

Playboy/Penthouse/Hustler.

If I'm going to be stranded, I'm going to need something more than fine prose to get me by.
