as many folks know, i love enya.

but there's also enigma, georgian chants and the lesser known Era.

we need more great music like that.

let's hear what you got.

and good luck relaxin.

Mark Atkinson Trio. Sort-of jazz, sort-of classical, instrumental trio. Or for something nicely different an '80s release called "Neck and Neck" by Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler.

I also find the Gaither Gospel quartet, Celtic harp and Loreena McKennit very good for frazzled nerves.

REAL Gregorian Chant. Not Enigma's, and not "Masters of Chant" who do weird modernish songs in Gregorian Chant style. I would rather hear "Kyrie Eleison" by honest-to-god Gregorian Monks than "Losing My Religion" by Masters of Chant.

*grumbles*

Also, I'm a total sucker for piano music, or Norwegian fiddle music. And some movie soundtracks (Lord of the Rings; Pirates of the Caribbean; Kingdom of Heaven). Anything that has a moodto it makes me happy.

And if you like JMJ, you might like Andreas Vollenweider -- JMJ except with a harp. Chicks dig it.

Also Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra.

My favorite of the 'quiet storm'* genre, though, is Debussy.

*: I dunno, that's what the pre-Bel Air Fresh Prince used to call it.

I always thought they were singing "Carry a Laser down the road that you must travel."

It made way more sense than whatever the hell Kyrie Eleison means.

Give a listen to Jean-Luc Ponty, an electric violinist who's most often slotted in New Age but has been doing amazing, thoughtful, often peaceful CDs before CDs and New Age existed. I recommend "Imaginary Voyages" or "Cosmic Messenger" for first listens.

Aaron Copland's ballet "Appalacian Spring" is also terrific. You'll recognize parts of it if you've ever tuned in to CBS.

Speaking of which, the local Barnes & Noble has a sample listen of any CD in its stock, which is a pretty cool way to find out if you like something, assuming a snippet is enough to tell you. It's about as long as Amazon's. I assume this is widely available for it to have reached the hinterlands where I live.

Maryn, who has 7 or 8 Jean-Luc Ponty CDs and 3 different Coplands

Kenny G's "Songbird"

On endless repeat.

Very loudly.

It's like being pecked to death by snails.

I chill out to Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth, and the Dead Kennedys.

Depending on what CD you listen to, Metallica is either cool and relaxing, or blood-pressure spiking and annoying.... :)

What about "And Justice for all?"

I liked that CD. But yes, Master of Puppets and earlier. Good man.

Justice is just ah-right. I don't think it holds up quiet as well as Puppets though.

Well, no, of course not. Puppets is a masterpiece.

Unlike, for example, St. Anger. :(
