That there are people keeping tabs on li'l ole me is something I take for granted. (In fact, I think it's made me even MORE of a freak in some ways.)
In the 1970s the house where I lived with my band mates (we were all in a punk rock band and lived in the same house) was visited by the Secret Service because we had pictures of R. Regan and J. Carter with bullets going through their heads on a poster for our show. The agents were very nice and professional, I'll add. They asked us if we were planning to kill the presidential candidates and we answered "no". They appeared to accept this answer. (It's interesting to note, however, that John Hinkley in all likelihood DID attend that very show. He was a big fan of the band "the Kamikaze Klowns", he lived a short distance from the venue, and they were featured on the bill. Weird, eh?)
I have had employees before and I DO watch what they are doing. I pay over scale and expect for employees to be accountable for their activities and production while I am paying them. I tell them that up front, too.
As well, I've had an employer fire me because I was using company computers and printers to print out pornographic stories I had written for one of my boyfriends who was in prison. I didn't consider this unfair in that regard-- however, it WAS unfair given that other employees could use company equipment and internet connection to have hours-long instant message chats with relatives and friends, and to keep private email accounts that they couldn't risk having their spouses know about. THAT was what made it wrong-- that they didn't apply the same standard to everyone.
