I ask you, is there anything worse? Is there anything worse on the planet, people?

Discuss.

Have fun.

And as always, no wagering.

Sorry, thrill. Too easy.

Even if you don't like opera, it's a good two-hour nap. Try sleeping through The Weas-----el.

How dare you?

I love the weasel, budd-eee.

ETA: I didn't even think this thread would be a place where people listed the worst things on the planet. I really just wanted to talk about how much I friggin despise opera.

But I think we can do both and not break any messageboarding rules. I'll check the handbook though.

I don't want to be fined.

Okay. I'll see your Opera, and I'll raise you a Gilbert & Sullivan.

I'll see that and raise you a on Letterman performance from about 20 minutes ago of the Metropoliton Opera's Barber of Seville.

Too rich for my blood; I fold.

Unless it involved Bugs and Elmer. Then I'm all in.

I adore opera.

Seriously. Some of the world's most incredible music.

The Flower Song, from Lakme? Gorgeous.

Are we still friends? I know it's an unspeakable perversion. Sort of like that little Lit Crit kink I try not to indulge...

The thing is, everyone says "opera" but that's sort of like saying "guitar music"--it encompasses an huge range of technique, style, musicality, performance values, and so on.

Exactly.

Anyway, just because You don't happen to like Opera, doesn't mean it's evil

Okay, but why is it so boring?

Heh--it's not.

The thing I love about opera is its fun, self-referential appreciation of melodrama.

NASCAR, now. NASCAR is boring, unless a driver cracks up and spreads his car all over the track. And who wants to sit there and watch all those laps, secretly hoping for that?

Goodnight.

And yes, cars driving around in circles is a snoozefest.

ETA: But to quote Hillary Clinton, my position is evolving when it comes to Nascar.

(I'm gonna need the Nascar vote.)

I love opera. It's passionate and dramatic and moves me to tears at times.

I used to hate opera, but I've been caught listening to it a few times in the last couple of years:

"God, I hate opera!"

"Then why are we still listening to it?"

"Sssh! I really hate this part that's coming up, so be quiet!"

I like bits and pieces of opera - highlights, y'know? Or 'The Best of...' kinda stuff.

And Bugs and Elmer. It doesn't get any better than that. Or that one where Bugs is playing the banjo outside the opera singer's house.

Ha! This really is about Opera! Terri's joke was right on--I assumed Billy had made a typo and that was his intended subject.

Opera is wonderful, but only when it's done well. Poor performers (on stage or in the pit) can make any opera abyssmal.

Think I'll put Parzival on, now that I'm in the mood...
