View Full Version : The Cult of the Squashed Gopher a.k.a. the "We Love Mac" Thread

Alan Yee
11-06-2006, 04:22 AM
Okay, I suggested this a few days ago in the "Who's in charge?" thread, and decided it was a great idea after all.

So, I'm starting a cult for the legendary and mysterious Squashed Gopher in Mac's avatar. This is also the appropriate place to post nice things about the new Queen Mac (like all those "We Love/Appreciate you, Jenna!" threads).

Who wants to join me?

P.S. And I notice that Unique is already a Squashed Gopher Cult member. Come join us! We get to wear sexy cult outfits and everything. You know you want to! :D

There's some pretty bad flooding around here, down in the valley from my house and elsewhere. (Mac and I both live in the Seattle area.) Some of the rivers are flooding and cars have been swept away.

My immediate area has a lot more water than usual, but there's no drastic flooding. Our school had to bring in machines to pump out and drain water from the outside hallways. We're practically walking to classes through little rivers.

First I missed the whole cow phenomenon

A scammy agent listed on the Bewares Board had written some nasty stuff about us, including something like, "Don't bow to the cows because they are published!" She also made some kind of funny remark about us being Dawno's followers, so it all sort of morphed together, and we became Dawnolites, Sparkle Cows, etc.

then I can't figure out why people talk about the Wrath of Jenna

When Innkeeper flounced, he deleted every post he ever made, and the reason he wrote on each one was: "The wrath of Jenna" because I'd given him a negative rep point for being very harsh to someone.

Then I see all these goher avatars. At least I kinda know why now even if it is page 5. Love you, Mac.

So I'm fine. It's not as if I was ever in any real danger, I just drove a truck and horse trailer around a lot--pretty much anyone with stock trailers was doing the same thing. :)

The worst seems to be over, the river has crested, and the tide has dropped a bit--there's another storm sitting off the west coast, though, so we're all watching it pretty close. The dikes and levees have taken a beating, and the ground is saturated.

Alan, Midnight, glad to hear you guys are high and dry! I'm just outside Snohomish, and we got pretty well pounded, up here.

I live in the Federal Way area, and we didn't really get flooded, just got a bunch of water. We haven't gotten much rain in the past two days, though. Down the hill and into the valley, near Puyallup and Kent, there was flooding. And, of course, the Snohomish River.

Glad to know you're safe, Mac. Thank God I live on a hill without a river nearby.

I've got a great recipe book around here somewhere for flattened roadside snackies....mmmm, gopher torte.
On second thought, would cookies be better? Mac like cookies?
I also have a robe around here somewhere.....Is flannel okay? I have a cool hat I could wear to the meetings. Rather posh in its oddity....

Okay. I actually only really want to know what's up with the whole gopher fetish. Not that there's anything wrong with a gopher fetish....there are weirder things out there. I heard of a guy down in Akron who had a thing for wombats - it was in a newsletter somewhere - he made one drive his car. You can guess how that worked out....wrong side of the road and all.

I digress. What's up with the gophers?

It's quite shiny and covered in sparkly little doodads. There are feathers (Every posh hat must have feathers to qualify). It's rather like an old stove pipe that was accosted by a pimp and then taken to Tiffany's.
Sounds lovely, eh?
On a side note I cruised good old Google and found the perfect pic....
It's a pic of a gopher driving a car....thought it was the Akron Wombat for a moment....

When she first put up the avatar, several individuals asked what it was supposed to be. MacAllister claims it's really a coyote petroglyph, but everyone else claims it looks like roadkill, like a squashed gopher. Mac's never one to dismiss alternative theories just because they disagree with her own personal beliefs. She gives all sides the same, careful consideration. It's part of the reason she's was such a good choice to run AW.
