What say you?

Where'd you go excited only to end up disappointed?

The one that comes to mind for me is the "SUNSET STRIP."

The "World Famous Sunset Strip."

It's like...nothing.

But maybe 'cause I lived in LA so long.

But really, it's like ...nothing. Tower records and a couple bars....ah...it's overrated.

Thank you.

Virginia Beach is tourist trap but the place is small hell. If you want mid-atlantic beaches, go to the Outer Banks.

Waikiki... But then, I live about 2 miles from it.

(Hey, fellow islander! I, too, live near Waikiki--although I have to say I'd rather be on a beach in Waikiki than, say, an industrial park in Detroit!)

I'd say the Bahamas are overrated. I was there for 3 days and there was nothing to do but tourist traps and eating overpriced crappy food. Didn't help that it rained the whole time.

Pig's Alley, in Mexico across the border from Yuma, was a bust for me when I was 16 and living on the streets. I went there with Dino, a friend of mine, and all we found were naked women, booze, and 24x7 partying.

No pigs though...Pffffttt...

Is there a secret map that will take us to this Paradise?

At first, I thought the title said "Most Overrated Terrorist Destinations." I was disappointed to learn that it really said "Tourist." :(

Alas, I've been to neither Detroit nor the Bahamas...

I think if I were a tourist on O`ahu, I'd stay in Ko Olina.

Spooky, I'd forgotten all about that trip.

If you like standing in line for hours sweating profusely while awaiting so-called entertainment that lasts but brief moments, try Disney World in Orlando, Florida, for the most over-rated, over-priced, over-the-top assault on the senses yet least pleasing theme park known to mankind.

When I was stationed in Orlando 45 years ago was great. When I returned 4 years ago, I was really disappointed.

However, I have to cast my vote for either the San Francisco Wharf area, or downtown Seattle. Both stink of rotten fish, human feces, urine and vomit. Seattle is filled with panhandlers and vagrants that constantly bother you. Both areas are nice if you stay away from the heart of the city.

Wheeling (only a tourist attraction to the locals, btw), because most of the population is toothless, smells of pus-filled boils and rotting blood, and drinking water is always cloudy and kind of glows yellowish at night.

Plus, everyone's a dickhead.

From a town known as Wheeling, West Virginia
Rode a boy with a six-gun in his hand
And his daring life of crime
Made him a legend in his time
East and west of the rio grande

Well, he started with a bank in Colorado
In the pocket of his vest, a colt he hid
And his age and his size
Took the teller by surprise
And the word spread of Billy the Kid

This place also goes by the name Boys Town. It's quite famous for (well you can only imagine) the meat packing plant. :D

Boone's Farm in California. Believe they don't sell wine there and it's just a petting zoo. Pffftt...

Miami. Nice beach, Art Deco buildings and a funky bookstore with yummy food, but that's about it. Didn't like the vibe at all, and grundge was everywhere.

The Bahamas. The lounge chairs totally ruined the beach. There was nothing there, except, well, lounge chairs and overpriced food.

Beijing. The smog was so bad you couldn't see beyond a hundred meters. It extended to the Great Wall. Great place, but the tacky shops spoiled everything. It's not like I could admire the scenery, because the scenery was smog. Don't go in the summer or winter. Trust me. And go soon, before all the funky old places are bulldozed in preparation for the Olympics.

The Eiffel Tower. I never did like the thing, but when you're in Paris, you go to the Eiffel Tower, right? I thought there would be cafes, some artists, some kind of zesty vibe. Nah. Just crowds taking pics and dropping rubbish everywhere. Paris was great, though.

The V and A waterfront in Cape Town. I have no idea why tourists go there - I mean, it's a shopping mall on a harbour for crying out loud. Everything is overpriced to suit tourist dollars. The only decent place in the whole mess is Mitchells, because that's where all the waiters have gone to get pissed on Bosun's Bitter, and Old Wobbly.
