Only if you want a girlfriend who hangs around in bars. The conventional wisdom is that you go where the type of women you are interested in are apt to be found: High School/College libraries, art museums, church, Starbucks, the local computer cafe, special interest clubs, the produce dept of the market, etc. If you're a member of Mensa, the New Member receptions are usually a mother lode of interesting people (who generally get bored and vanish after a couple of months, never to be seen again).

Ask your best buddy if his girlfriend has a best friend you might like. *shrug*

What are you interested in (besides the obvious)? Do you want a steady long-term relationship, or just a hot date for the night? If you want a hot date, sure -- see who you can pick up in a bar. Otherwise, go to the sort of activities that you enjoy, and look around for any unattached women who are interested in the same things.

Yeah, I guess people who go to starbucks, church, art museums and libraries, etc never go to bars.

Are people who hang out in bars the last acceptable form of discrimination?

I'm looking for someone whose company I enjoy and who enjoys my company.

I'm looking for someone to stick with.

I'm not looking for one night stands. o_O

My best buddy has a cute sister.

There are pros and cons to that. His sister may be a delightful person to be with. On the other hand, she may be obsessed with something you can't stand, like square dancing or playing the tuba. If you go out with her a few times and then break it off, and she goes home whining to your buddy, you could wind up with two black eyes. (Or your buddy may just offer you a beer, nod, and say, "Yeah, she's like that.") This is a big case of it depends.

Why didn't you say so?!

Nightclubs.

Forget the bars.

Nightclubs are where you should go, Bart.

I reserve the right to discriminate when the subject of dating is in discussion.

Drinking is probably my biggest pet peeve.

He's super protective. I think he'd flip a gasket if he knew I was interested in his sister.

College.

Campus doesn't seem to be a good place to meet girls. I get stood up a lot.

That makes me sad.

I was gonna start a thread on how many lonely people are out there and how sad it is.

I'm sad.

Not necessarily, but I once worked with a guy who met and married a girl he met in a bar. Afterwards, she kept bitching that he wanted to spend all of his time in the bar instead of coming home to her. (What did she expect???) They had some really fabulous screaming matches, and eventually she drove their car into the company garage door because she was pissed off at him. Banged up the car and totalled the door. I quit shortly after that, so I don't know how their lovelife eventually worked out.

This is for all the lonely people
Thinking that life has passed them by
Dont give up until you drink from the silver cup
And ride that highway in the sky

This is for all the single people
Thinking that love has left them dry
Dont give up until you drink from the silver cup
You never know until you try

Well, Im on my way
Yes, Im back to stay
Well, Im on my way back home (hit it)

This is for all the lonely people
Thinking that life has passed them by
Dont give up until you drink from the silver cup
And never take you down or never give you up
You never know until you try

Well, I think there's a difference between someone who is a barfly and someone who is, uh...not a barfly.

And there's also a difference between that couple and say...normal people who wouldn't drive a car into a building like a lunatic.

Yeah, bars aren't a good place to meet women. Especially since I'm physically incapable of imbibing alcohol. I'm a bleeder.

The women who hang out at the bar on 7th avenue are prostitutes.

That's really something I'd rather avoid altogether.
