How often do you check your rep points? Do you wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat wondering what people have said about you? Do you give a big "WOO HOO" whenever you get more points?

If so, this is the club for you...sporting its own clubhouse and comfy chairs. Come on in!! :D

I check my rep points every time I open AW. I open AW at least once every 15 minutes.

That's just silly.

That would be like me posting this message, just to create a post that would give my another little-piece-of-scrunched-up-paper icon, just so I could then click on it and check my rep points.

I always think, I wish their was a rep comment reply button to click on. Sometimes the rep comments are screaming for a reply...but if you went and found that member's post somewhere they might not understand your rep comment reply...it would be coming from nowhere, you know.

I feel this way as well.

I didn't even know about the existance of rep points until a few months ago and couldn't figure out why no one ever acknowledged a point I made. I was just resigned to talking to myself, when I read a thread about rep points. Then it was *sniffle* "You like me - you realllyyy like me" - and then crushing guilt! All these nice people were talking to me and I didn't acknowledge them - gah! I feel now that I should at least thank them, but that means initiating an email, and then I don't want them to think that they have to write me back....arghhhh!

Rep point etiquette - it gives me angst.:(

Is there a good ratio for that? Mine's getting better since OP posts don't count any more. I have about 170, from 600 odd posts (that count toward the total), or about 25%. It's up from about 17%. obsessive, me? Naw.

This is an excellent point, and an unforeseen repercussion of stopping the post-count for OP and TIO (which was done... why?)

It has always been POSSIBLE for someone to actually have more rep points than posts. It is now extremely PROBABLE that under the current system, we will.

I always check my rep point. I LOVE the nice comments people leave me. I have several hundred of them, and they are very nice to read.

Right now I have earned your admiration. I have 32 more before I start leaving trails of profuse coolness (sort of like a fantasy snail, as someone said to me in the chatroom).

Jadezuki

I always seem to forget rep points, and I hardly ever check them. Sadly, this means I also rarely think to GIVE rep points. I vow here, in this thread, to be more liberal with my rep-point giving, because I do get a nice warm glow when I read a nice comment (well, when I think to, anyway).

SpookyWriter
10-26-2006, 03:59 AM

And I thought I was the only obsessive-compulsive rep point checker. Whew! I like the comments, and the people who rep me are pretty cool.

I agree with KTC, I’d like to reply to a rep point. Sometimes I respond to a person by posting instead of giving them a point. I need to remember to do this for some fellow AWers (you know who you are).

I’m sauntering in the ‘a glorious beacon of light’ status. Reps, they’re a beautiful thing.

Points? *searches CP* What points?Oh they're cool. You can redeem them at the AW store for all kinds of neat stuff like tee-shirts, cd's, autographed books by famous writers, and even one time they had a cruise to Jamaica for everyone with 2000 rep points.

Start collecting them now because by next summer I heard Jenna was going to have an all expense trip to Amsterdam.

I my name is Karen and I am a rep point addict.

But here is the sad part... I only have 97 points for 544 posts - that is a bad % right. hmpf. I didn’t realise I was so unpopular… Perhaps it is the BRAT part of my name that turns people off?

People don't understand - an Expat Brat is a real word. It is the word of a child who grew up in an expat environment. It is the real official word for expat kids. And I am not even an expat brat - that is my hubs. He is the one who grew up in Tanzania and Oman and Malaysia and Hong Kong. I grew up surfing in Cronulla Australia. But when I joined here I just gave myself the name of my book – and my book is expat brat… and now everyone thinks I am a brat. Which is sad cause then I don’t get rep points. I feel sad now. I’m going to take my MS (Expat Brat) outside and go put more red pen all over the stupid thing… cry… sniff…

expatbrat
10-26-2006, 06:40 AM
This was a mistake double post...

But I'll use it to notify all that I will be changing my signature to explain what a EXPAT BRAT is to all those who, well, those who are not expats and hence could not be expected to know these things.

Maybe when people better understand me............?

First, you need to admit you have a problem. By posting here, you've started your journey to healing.

Now you need to separate yourself from the problem. Free yourself from the past. Transfer all your rep points over to me. Okay? Good. Don't y'all feel better now?

I'm a rep point paranoiac.

If a day goes by without a point, I feel chastened.

Two, and I worry that I've lost it. Unfunny, unwise, unwelcome.

Three, and I become scared to post, lest the situation get worse.

Four, and I come to believe strangers disapprove of me in real life, too.

Five, and I grow bitter and resentful.

Six, and I start plotting my revenge...

It's day five.

I'm a rep point paranormal.

If a day goes by without finger painting on my backside, I feel chastened.

Two-da-loo, and I worry that I've lost it. Unfunny, unwise, unwelcome, undead, un-who cares.

Three, and I become scared to post, lest the situation get worse and I begin to break out in weird places.

Four, and I come to believe strangers expect more of me in real life, than they do when I'm dead.

Five, and I grow bitter and resentful coffee beans out back.

Six, and I start plotting my revenge while tending my sheep...

It's day five.

I love the comments, but don't check too often. I think I'm nearing the 2000 mark. It's not the points though...I wouldn't care if it even had points. I'm always glad to read the comments. I always think, I wish their was a rep comment reply button to click on. Sometimes the rep comments are screaming for a reply...but if you went and found that member's post somewhere they might not understand your rep comment reply...it would be coming from nowhere, you know. Anyway...I guess this isn't the club for me.

I want to thank the AW Academy for giving thanks and humor in their reps. I am a better person because of you and would like to dedicate my ‘shiny, shiny jewel’ status to all who made it possible. Thank you.

Getting there.... 26 away from my next level. It's harder when they are spaced out in the 100's, rather than every fifty or so. ;)

A few days? DAYS?? And you call yourself obsessive??? Pfffft. :D :D :D
Yeah, but I wait just so I can have the suprise of having more than one. That might very well be a sickness in itself!

I've gotten three from this thread. Now I feel like a cheat.

That doesn't mean you get to take them away, though.

I'm 'well respected'? When the hell did that happen?

Oh, I see... I got 3 more points for that last post. I'm good at this.

Just a quickie... what's the protocal for saying thanks for rep points?

Do you PM or just gracefully accept them with a silent appreciation...

Don't want to upset anyone by not knowing what's appropriate :)

I tend to rep back at some point :) Sometimes I just take them in silence ;) Depends on what kind of point it is..

I sometimes just accept them in silence, but these days, I'm trying to rep them back more often. I somtimes rep them back on another post. (It's a challenge if they haven't posted in that thread recently, and you have to use their profile to find their recent posts. OTOH I have sometimes found cool new threads that way. :)

If the comment is really long, and I want to respond, then I copy the text, and then send them a PM including their text as a quote. That avoids the confusion of putting a response to a rep point when repping a post that has nothing to do with their comment. :D

ETA: Crap. I read it wrong. I'll only have earned admiration. I have 9 more until I earn some admiration. It's about time too. ;) What? You think I have been posting for fun? It's all about the recognition baby.

(Not that I'll mind when I ooze down that trail.)

Do you PM or just gracefully accept them with a silent appreciation...I'll pm sometimes, sometimes I gracefully accept them. Not with silent appreciation though. My kids hear me appreciate them. My neighbors hear me. Shoot, I'm surprised you don't hear me.

I actually paused when going to check. Hmmm should I? If I check, does it mean that I have a problem? Do I need to admit that I have a problem? And just how am I supposed to do the step where I ask for forgiveness?

Thanks everyone for my obsessive rep point checker behavior, and my obsessive ‘checking AW to make sure they aren’t posting without me’ syndrome. They aren't improving, but what can I say y’all are crazy and keep my interest. A first in my life.

Psst…I’m 3 shy of ‘a glorious beacon of light’ as a member, not in real life.

If someone reps you to thank you because you repped them, and you rep them back to thank them, will it go on forever?

Arrgghh... I think I sprained a lobe trying to think about that.
I was thinking the same thing, but then I realized that we can only benefit from such an exchange ;). Actually I do think a thank you rep is sometimes in order, but it depends on how much you like the person who repped you, and the reason why they did it. I don't think a rep point for a thank you rep point is necessary unless you're just in a really good mood. :D
