Is there any threads that list good agents for each sort of book you might be looking to amrket to them? Did that sentace make sense? I've got a childrens book, and am feeling overwhelmed trying to find legitimate agents to query. Thanks for any response

Go to http://agentquery.com and use th esearch function. You'll get a list of reputable agents, their areas of interest and contact info.

Also subscribe to the free email newsletter Publishers Lunch you'll get current deal info for various types of book sold including the agent who sold the project and the editor/publisher who bought it. http://www.publishersmarketplace.com/lunch/subscribe.html

Then come check out the Bewares & Background Check thread http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=792

Hogwaffle,
Barbara gave you some excellent advice. You may also want to check publisher's marketplace and your local library for the paper version as well. If you buy it, it will cost about $32 bucks, but I would go with agentquery and then to the websites of the agents that have them and go from there as well. Best of luck to you!;)
