One Night Stand, a Chicago-based band, has recorded my song and will release it on their CD due March 1, 2007. This is the demo.

I LOOKED TWICE!

I walked in, and there he was on the stage
The right looks, the right size, the right age
I'm so burned out on good-looking guys
I won't even let em catch my eyes
I went to the bar, I got me a beer
The band started playing, I didn't care
I changed my mind
When he started singing his song

It wasn't love at first sight
But, thank God, I Looked Twice!
I looked below the surface
And I liked what I saw
I've had my share of tight fitting jeans
I've had my share of late night scenes
It wasn't love at first sight
But I Looked Twice!

The band took a break, he walked up to me
He had charm, he had umph, he got me
He knew just what to say and how to say it
He said I'm his favorite song and he's gonna play it
I found out what we've got in common
A deep-seated need to share good loving
Now I'm his lady
And he's my Mister Right

It wasn't love at first sight
But, thank God, I Looked Twice!
I looked below the surface
And I liked what I saw
I've had my share of tight fitting jeans
I've had my share of late night scenes
It wasn't love at first sight
But I Looked Twice!

solo

I've had my share of tight fitting jeans
I've had my share of late night scenes
It wasn't love at first sight
But I Looked Twice!
It wasn't love at first sight
But I Looked Twice!

Jim,

That was a heck-of-a good song! And I don't even like country that much.

I read some of your bio too. I sure understand the part about artists who adapt a song to fit them, making it unrecognizable to the person who wrote it.
My family stubbornly refused to let anyone change our songs.

Stubborn but stupid. Back then we had gotten a lot of interest and even contracts but we quickly gained a "rep". we were young so we thought we were invincible. We were.

"Were" being the operative word lol.

Good luck on the song, i really liked it.

Mr. Colyer,

Do you mind sharing the story of how you came to successfully market your song?

Mike

I have a website with my catalog of songs on it. I live on the campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville and have access to the libraries. For 2 years, I have posted songs on songwriter forums and other discussion forums, hoping an artist or group would hear something they like and contact me. It happened with One Night Stand. Their lead singer heard "I Looked Twice!" The band's manager contacted me by email to say they wanted to record it. I sent them a CD with lyrics and chords. By doing it this way, I retain the publishing rights. I am signing a mechanical royalties contract.

Thanks, Jim. I realy like the song. I would have recorded it myself but I sound like a tree frog in a blizzard.

My sister and a couple of brothers are going to have a contest to see who can me the most successful in 2007. I was looking for an edge.

It's nice to know that someone can market songs nowadays.

Good luck with selling more.
