Sorry, Gaffer.

I'm sad for Willie.

He's really a Yankee.

But I can't say I'm disappointed.

I did pump my fist on strike three.

What a catch by Chavez though.

Amazin!

What the hell?

When I was selling my soul, Satan SPECIFICALLY told me La Russa would never make it to the big game.

So, the only question left:

Do the Cards get swept again or do they scrape their way to a 5 game series loss?

We're going to have our hands full, no question. Earlier this season we lost 3 times to Detroit, and no one expected the Cards to make it this far after their lackluster season, but oops...there they are! :)

Trish, who was glad they didn't have to play against/lose against the White Sox last year after losing to the Red Sox the year before.

I'll say this about the Cards: great old team, great baseball town. Great skipper. Pujols is a future Hall of Famer. Solid club.

Having said that... if you set aside $25 for a shirt to remember this season by, I'd go ahead and buy the "National League Champs 2006" one now.

i won't be buying a shirt. i never do, but i'll be watching and i'll be cheering.

(Carpenter needs to get his pitching in line with Suppan - we need him now!)

I loved Albert Pujols' sound bite on TV last night. "Well, I got a taste of the World Series in 2004, and that was great, but I'd kinda like for us to win a game this time."

:)

"I'm just happy to be here."

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

The bright side of the Mets losing last night is that now I know who I'll root for in the World Series. If they'd won, I was going to have a hard time figuring out who I wanted to win. Sorry, Stew, but I have to go for the old home (state) team. The Cards are great, but I have to prioritize.

Ugh. I just realized that it's been 22 years since Detroit has been to the show, and that I watched that series. Pardon me while my hair slowly turns grayer.

I understand, Shrug, really I do.
If the Cards weren't in it, I would have been rooting for Boston two years ago. and thankfully they weren't in it last year, because I lived in Chicago for eight years and enjoyed the White Sox while I was there, I was glad to root for them last year and knew we couldn't beat them. Better to not play it and torture me!
The Cards have gone to the world series a few times since, but haven't won since 82!

It's the year of the tiger
it's the year of the fight
No more dicking around with the year of the monkey
and the last lone survivor
makes his calendar straight
cause he knows that he lives in the year
of the tiger.

rising up, somewhere 'round tet
chinese new year is funny
shooting off fireworks
and dancing in dragons
eating rice, spendin' money

out on street something is happenin
there's a baby being birthed
he's got the look
of a kung fu master
greatest fighter on earth

cause it's the year of the tiger
it's the year of the fight
No more dicking around with the year of the monkey
and the last lone survivor
makes his calendar straight
cause he knows that he lives in the year
of the tiger.

Some people use the goofy greek system
stars aligning their future
but they're wrong cause the star are gaseous
they can't predict
they can't nurture.

Too many times it happens too fast
you trade your noodles for wontons
Don't you let go
of your kung pao chicken
cause you know what you're wantin'

in the year of the tiger
it's the year of the fight
No more dicking around with the year of the monkey
and the last lone survivor
makes his calendar straight
cause he knows that he lives in the year
of the tiger.

I was hoping for a Tigers/Cardinals series and I got my wish. Because I like the Cardinals more than I like the Mets...But being that I'm in Michigan, I am rooting for the Tigers all the way!!!

Unfortunately, I think they would have had an easier time beating the Mets. My prediction is Tigers in 5.

Chavez's catch was worth watching the game for, all by itself. At the time, it was a game-saver, and had the Mets gone on to win, would get regarded as one of the three or four best and most important defensive plays in baseball history. All I can say is, "God, why didn't you make me as graceful as Endy Chavez?"

caw.

it was an amazing catch, and I thought for sure after that the game would be over based on pure momentum of a play like that. Lucky for us, eh? (shouldn't have taken Heilman out...oops)
And it will still be considered one of the biggest catches in post season history. It was an amazing play.

It is the year of the Tiger. The Tigers will win the World Series and the Bengals will win the Superbowl (even though the Superbowl is in 2007).

Um, lowest rated World Series ever.

Why is it called the World Series when only one country cares about the sport?
