View Full Version : Holy ****, I got a referral to do some freelancing!

This is actually an expired goal for me, but an accomplishment nonetheless.

I write several articles a year for a radio trade magazine (http://www.beradio.com/). The editor usually emails me with a request for me to write a 1,500 word piece, and I write it and earn an easy $350. In fact, I have one coming out in the October issue. A nice historical piece on a radio pioneer.

I had asked the editor to keep his ears open in case he heard of anyone needing freelance work, and he sent me some business a year and a half ago, but nothing since then.

Today I got an email from the PR company that services two big radio equipment companies, asking if I would be interested in writing press releases and new product announcements for a while. Typically two to four a month, ongoing indefinitely, at $250 a pop. She said: "We don't see our need for writing easing up ANY time soon."

I'm like, holy crap!

And on top of that, if I'm interested, they'll need technical pieces and white papers, too, paying 50 cents a word.

And again, holy crap!

She was referred to me by the editor at the magazine. I owe him a drink the next time he's in town!

Try to guess how long it's taking me to think this one over.

Hint: It wasn't long.

Thanks! I have a hard enough time disciplining myself to write right now as it is. God, if I have bi-weekly deadlines, I'll have to take this stuff seriously!

It'll be fulfilling work, though. That's what's important.

And steady income! Hooray!
