Less than an hour ago, I finished up dinner with my agent and signed a contract for two knitting books with Storey Publishing, one ms to be delivered August 2007 and the second August 2008.

:e2woo:

I have to thank all the people at AW who contributed information on how to find an agent, what to expect from your agent, how to identify good agents, and who personally kept me sane over the last two months while I found my agent and she negotiated this contract.

Now, I just have to write them...

Good for you! Congratulations :)

Now get busy!!
:D

Can't yet - I'm still in Massachusetts - just finished up a teaching job. Have to go home tomorrow, work the day job, teach again next weekend, and then I get down to work.

So don't be so impatient!

That ought to "sew it up" pretty good. Didn't mean to needle you.

Actually, I've had the contract (the original offer from the publisher) for two months now. It's more of a relief that we've negotiated a better deal and it's finally settled, rather than being exciting.

Plus I've worked very hard the last 4 days (and before that too, I just can't remember what I was working on at home last week...) and I will confess to being tired.

Thanks to all for your congratulations. It's so nice to have a place where I can tell people who will actually understand what it means.:Hug2:

Congratulations are indeed in order.

Hmmm...Just curious. Would you be willing to share with us some of the operational details, like:

- estimated time to complete each book (turnaround time)

- amount of research to be conducted, if any, and if so, what form?

- will you be required to undertake a 'significant' part of the marketing
process, or will this be largely handled by the publisher?

- how much time did you spend on the initial book proposal, inclusive of
market research etc

- did you have a 'platform' prior to approaching an agent?

- were the agreements with the publisher and that of the agent both
standard agreements or extraordinary for books in your sector?

Thanks.
